Usually, Octavia wouldn't have minded having a DJ at the club. It livened up the place and offered some distraction, and this one even seemed to have some alt rock leanings, so theoretically, she shouldn't have had anything to complain about. But guess this just wasn't that kind of night.

The first song that caught her attention wasn't a grave offense. Just... something that brought back things she wasn't equipped to handle right now. So she walked up to the DJ booth and just sort of shook her head, and that was that. It was fine.

Only, it wasn't that much later that something else began to play, and...

"My Lucifer is lonely; standing there, killing time, can't commit to anything but a crime --"

Octavia marched back up to the booth.

"Seriously?"

At the sight of her face, the DJ's exasperation had an edge of panic. "Hey, the place's called the Devil's Nest, I just thought --"

"Out."

They were getting a playlist of crooner-type piano bar stuff for the rest of the night. It wasn't much better, but at least it wasn't so on the nose.

There was an Eric! He was currently texting back and forth with Pam, who was providing him scathing commentary on Sookie's new haircut.

Apparently she was trying out bangs?

And that was where Octavia found him, as she leaned in for a peek. "Hey, Eric," she rasped. "Think this is the first time you've been here since I started."

It was.

And that meant this was also her first time seeing him in over seven years.

Well, he had the advantage of looking exactly the same as the last time, at least?

"Hello," Eric said with a small smile. "Louisiana has been taking up some of my attention again. Welcome back."

"Thanks," Octavia said, in her usual mild tone. "I guess."

She herself looked older, and a little more worn down, though at least living with Duke meant she'd put on a little more weight since her return.

She had to wonder Eric could even tell the difference.

(Lucifer had.)

"And thanks for the job, too," she added, after a beat. "Still think money's stupid but I guess I need it."

"People do tend to expect it in exchange for goods and services," Eric agreed. "We've moved a bit past the barter system."

"Things change in the other direction, too," said the woman from the world where the latest developments meant there wasn't much need for even bartering now. "Not even money's forever."

"What do you use instead?" Eric asked.

"I use money," Octavia replied, in her perfect deadpan. "I just said."

He was going to have to be a little more specific if he wanted her to talk about the Ground.

"Hilarious," Eric said dryly, sipping from his drink.

Octavia's face did not move.

"That's what I'm here for."

"Well, next week you can do stand up and we won't need a DJ at all," Eric said.

"This one had to go," Octavia drawled, glancing back towards the club. "He was... sub-standard."

That was a thing, right? Not that she actually cared.

Eric shrugged. "I don't contract for the really good ones," he admitted.

This disaster of a show ends tonight. I AM READY.
