Last week had been a hell of a thing. But now Miguel was back, and he'd be damned if he wasn't going to work his shift today.

Even the smart-ass raven on his shoulder wasn't going to stop him. Fortunately, she didn't seem inclined to.

"Drink enough coffee for both of us, mijo." She gave a dismissive look to the busboy and his ferret and a beady-eyed stare to the cook's Newfoundland, which was wedged between the counters. "I'll keep an eye on things."

"Get feathers in my cup and I'll web your feet down," he grumped.

"Get coffee on my feathers and I'll claw your head," she offered back cheerfully.

Luke's was open, if more occupied than usual.
