So Maeve had a damn owl, and she was trying to roll with it, even when Aiden kept commenting on things she already knew, like "don't respond to that text" or "smoking is bad for you." She wasn't sure she needed an actual physical representation of what her brain already did.

And then she walked into Luke's, where there was already a ferret and a Newfoundland, and she had an owl, and she said, "I don't know how comfortable I am with any of this."
