Caritas; Wednesday [10/07].

So everything was just...normal today, at Caritas, when Summer came in for her shift, which almost felt like the weirdest things that could have happened.

But no excess or weird supplies, no one acting weird or talking animals or rowdy racooons. All the band was staying together as they played music without any particularly insistent or annoying theme. Tino wasn't attempting to serve cocktails from a homemade batch of gin all because of a convoluted attempt to celebrate National Bathtub Day.

Everything was just...super normal.

"Weird," said Summer.

"I know, right?" agreed Tino.

But neither of them were going to complain.

Eleanor came in all dramatic and whiny. "Summmmmmmmeeeeeeeerrrrrrr," she said flopping on the bar. "I sooooooo need your help."

Honestly she was a few punctuation marks away from being Nina at this point.

Yeah, that was almost immediately where Summer went with that, too.

"Okay," she stared, eyeing her carefully, "but first: are you Eleanor right now?"

After last week, it probably didn't hurt to check, especially with an opening like that.

Even the Jello shots looked pretty normal this week. Hmm...

"Hey," Rey greeted her as she took her seat. "How are things?"

Look at how she was just gonna gloss over last week, too.

"Uh. Yeah," she said reaching over to try and grab some olives from behind the bar. "Unlike last week when I thought I was the chick from Vanessa Saturn and bought like a fork ton of tequila."

She pouted at Summer. "Apu won't let me return them. And everything is really awkward with the Cheese Panda. Think you can help a girl out?"

"At the risk of bringing up a topic involving gremlins?" Eleanor said giving Rey a point of her finger as she snacked on some olives. "You got moves, girl."

"We're pretending it didn't happen," Rey said, immediately.

Thankfully, having a hyper-spastic ballerina unicorn lamb show up as your soul almost made you forget about some of the other stuff that happened prior to it.

Almost.

"Normal," Summer answered, shaking her head in bewilderment, because that was the only answer. "It's weird? But I'll take it. How about you? Nice, normal Dr. Pepper for you tonight, Rey?"

"Yeah, thanks," she said. "It's been easy enough this week. I haven't actually done much."

And it was great.

"Hey," Jesse greeted on her way in, and settled on her stool. "Look who made it through another weekend."

"Ohmygod," gushed Summer, setting down a generic beer for Jesse almost before her butt even hit the stool, "you have to tell me all about what animal you got."

She was just going to assume what that was about, unless there was some other pop diva super concert in the park she'd managed to miss, and that would have been tragic.

"So did you know hawks can be neurotic?" Jesse said, taking her beer with a quick nod in thank-you. "It was kind of endearing."

Summer was just going to....move those olives on the bar for you, there, Eleanor.

"And here I thought people just needed a lot of help with the weekend," she noted. "But, yeah, I can help. I don't know why Apu'd be a butt about it, we definitely have policies for gremlin-bit purchases, AU purchases, precoscious little kid purchases....as long as you haven't, you know, already consumed it."

"Saaaaaaaame!" said Summer, each extended vowel heavy with the weight of relief.

Well, except mildly torture her boyfriend with the threat of Bollywood and adorable animal costumes, but that didn't really count.

"It's nice after last week. And, next week is the school trip, so that bodes well for us, too."

"Well... he might have been a tad offended by me. For no reason whatsoever."

The handwavy conversation she had with Apu over the weekend had been hazy. And possibly insulting. Okay, this was Eleanor, so it was very insulting.

"And I only opened one bottle."

"Yeah, those weeks tend to be pretty quiet," Rey said.

Which was good! Breaks were necessary!

"Then I'm just going to pretend you had moves," Eleanor clarified before toasting her with her jello shot. "Which I totally did not record."

Well, she started to and then gremlin bite. Which then stopped when what happened did not happen. After that it was a recording of the sky and Eleanor singing "Genie in a Bottle" (out of tune) in the background.

Pretending. Yes.

"You recorded it?"

She wasn't the only one, either, Rey.

Eleanor shook her head as she snacked on another olive. "Didn't take," she said while chewing the olive. "All I got was the sky and me totally not singing Xtina because that totally didn't happen."

"Absolutely didn't. If it had I might have complimented you on it. But it didn't," Rey said.

"Oh, yeah," she said, looking quite proud of herself. "I didn't rock it at all."

She sighed happily basking in her own selfish view of herself before turning back to the conversation.

"So how you doing, Rey-Rey?" she said picking up her drink. "Still saving the universe and shirt?"

"You know? I can totally see that?" Summer decided, which was a fonded, nicer way of saying well, it probably would have been.... "And now I'm sad I didn't get a chance to swing by and actually see for myself."

"And speaking of," said Summer, who honestly didn't mean to set it up as a segue, but now she saw it was there, so she might as well take it. "How quiet do you really want it to be? Because I totally have a plus one spot that I think should be filled by someone."

And naturally Rey would be on the top of that list, especially since Summer kind of owed her for the Minfar trip.

"More like vaguely helping the universe right now," Rey said. "But I'm good. Enjoying some quiet. What about you?"

"What, me?"

And, to be fair, Apu really could be a butt about things, especially when it was convenient to the narrative.

"Well, that one you're stuck with," said Summer, who was honestly a little surprised it was just the one, "but bring the rest by tomorrow and we'll get it sorted out. Anything I can get for you here and now i the meantime?"
