Chilly Boulder- Thursday afternoon

The last time Rey and Liam had done the spontaneous ice cream thing, they'd talked about next time, and since Rey apparently had a busy few days ahead of her and thanks to Annie she had a whole new thing to try, she shot off a text to Liam in case he was free.

And until he got here, she'd just hang out and check out all the options.

Liam was indeed free, and honestly, ice cream just sounded, for a lot of reasons, like a really, really good idea today.

"Afternoon, Rey," he greeted, with a smile that was... maybe a little on the tight side, yes. "How'd you know this was what I needed today?"

"...Luck," she said. "Why do you need this today?"

"Just," he shrugged. "Feeling a little unsettled about- things. Current events. Apparently. Though the thread's still being played out so sorry for the vague"

"The kind of thing where things are happening but you can't do anything about it?" Rey guessed.

"That about sums it up," Liam said with a sigh. Because he wasn't anyone's security detail anymore. Hell, this election back home would probably go relatively smoothly; Hubble was a good guy (as good as any career politician could be) and incredibly popular post-Taelons. He'd almost certainly be re-elected.

And yet.

"Do you want to talk about it or do you want to get straight to ice cream?"

Both were valid.

“Let’s get ice cream first.”

If he was going to talk about Feelings, ice cream would maybe help. Or at least give him a convenient excuse to stop talking if he needed to.

"Ice cream it is," Rey nodded. "Are you getting something new this time?"

“That’s sort of the point, isn’t it?” he asked, grinning at her. “Trying something new. How about you?”

"I have it on good authority that I have to try a sundae," she answered.

[firstofitskind]

"Oh, with syrup and whipped cream and stuff? Yes, absolutely, you should," Liam agreed.

"It never occurred to me. All this time I was focusing on flavors and adding things onto it didn't even register."

Madness!

Wait until she found out about ice cream cake.

"I guess even with just flavors there's no shortage of options," Liam had to admit. "So I can see why it didn't."

"Now the trick is to find out which flavor to start with." Dilemma. "What are you getting?"

“I’m thinking something with a lot of chocolate in it,” Liam mused. Chocolate was generally good for improving one’s mood, right?

"I don't think you can go wrong with that," Rey told him. "There's a double fudge brownie?"

Liam thought about that. "And it would go great with whipped cream," he decided. "So, yes. That."

"And I'll get the Rocky Road with... everything," Rey said, making sure the worker heard her. "I suppose if I'm going to do this, I should do it right."

"No half-assing the ice cream," Liam agreed with a grin.

[thatwaslucky]

"Not today. Maybe never again," Rey said, watching as her sundae was put together... and then seeing just how much of it there was when she got it back. "Huh."

"What is it?" he asked, giving her a thoughtful look.

[thatwaslucky]

"That's a lot," she said, taking the sundae. "Which isn't bad."

“I believe in you,” Liam teased as he took his own bowl of ice cream. “You’ve got this.”

"I'm glad you have such faith in me," Rey said, going to pay. "You also won't be around for the sugar crash."

Which she'd heard was a thing.

"Nope!" he replied, popping the 'p'. Of course, his own concoction was nothing to sneeze at but still not quite as... extravagant... as Rey's.
