Steve had harragued bullied persuaded the Troopers into going on a long run around the island, and so they were punishing him by pretending not to hear the phone when it rang. Steve had already dealt with Bee Lady four times and now was on the phone with another person who was obviously and completely around the bend:

"You saw raccoons stripping a rickshaw down for parts," he repeated dubiously. "Right. Right. We'll be sure to look into that."

The Trooper Station was open, and apparently hot on the trail of evil rickshaw thieves?

Danny only arrived once he was absolutely certain that there wasn't any chance of being dragged on a run. Because he knew better.

"What's with the aneurysm face?" he asked after one glance at Steve.

"Raccoons are apparently stealing rickshaws and selling them for parts," Steve said dryly. "I think someone needs medication adjusted."

"...we did chase a fox art dealer once," Danny pointed out. Even though it pained him to do.

Steve sighed heavily. "Yes, but he wore clothing. I think these were just regular raccoons."

That was...an argument. Of some kind.

"Right," Danny said, trying to decide if that argument was worth taking up before going with 'nope' in regards to thieving animals. "Well, at least you're keeping busy."

"Pretty sure Ralph is calling people to make them call here," Steve muttered.

"Well, did you make them run again?"

[grenadesandohana]

"Of course I did," Steve said. "It's good for them!"

[hatesparadise]

Danny shot him an amused look before humming and looking away again. "Uh huh. Don't be surprised you're on their shit list then."

"They're being huge babies about it," Steve decided.

[hatesparadise]

"Uh huh," Danny replied dryly. "How about I take you to Baltimore tomorrow and you can try to find more lizard smugglers."

Joke was on him, there wouldn't be any because they took care of them already!

Steve's face lit up. "Really?"

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah, you're buying dinner there." Which made it a normal outing. And not a date.

"Crab fries?" Steve suggested.

Which was like crab cakes, but cheaper.

[hatesparadise]

Steve, you cheapskate.

"Crab fries?"

[grenadesandohana]

Steve nodded. "French fries with crab on them. And a ton of Old Bay because it's a thing around here."

"And beer," Danny demanded. "Beers. Plural."

[grenadesandohana]

"And two beers," Steve agreed, entirely to wind Danny up.

[hatesparadise]

"Two for you, more for me," Danny agreed.

[grenadesandohana]

"Two and a half," Steve decided.

Two and a half beers is not a thing, Steve.

[hatesparadise]

"Explain half a beer, Steven."

[grenadesandohana]

There was a long pause.

"I'd make you leave?"

[hatesparadise]

"You'd make me leave," Danny repeated.

[grenadesandohana]

"Sure," Steve said like that was a thing that happened.

[hatesparadise]

"I'd leave you there." Alone.

[grenadesandohana]

"I'd have the keys," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"To what car?"

[grenadesandohana]

"To whatever car we'll have borrowed by that point," Steve said optimistically. "Not a Yugo."

[hatesparadise]

"You are not driving in Baltimore," Danny replied with a laugh. "Not after that last time."

[grenadesandohana]

"I was an amazing driver under the circumstances!" Steve argued.

[hatesparadise]

"The car exploded." Because that's just what cars did.

[grenadesandohana]

Well.

"Yugo," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"Still on you." Danny was just being picky now.

[grenadesandohana]

"You can drive the car next time," Steve said. "Maybe you'll get the only non-exploding Yugo."

That was hilarious because Steve would never let Danny drive the car.

[hatesparadise]

"I will drive next time."

He would not.

[grenadesandohana]

"Of course!"

He would not.

[hatesparadise]

Because Steve was delicate and got car sick.

Danny nodded like it was a done deal. Bless his heart.
