There were a ton of cats in town today and a good amount of them were at the bar. Silver liked most animals so he wasn't all that bothered, even when a couple had decided to use his crutch as a scratching post. He would have been more annoyed if they weren't wearing such cute little hats.

He was absentmindedly petting a cat that decided to make its home on top of the bar.

"You too, huh?" Rey said, nodding towards the cat as she took a seat, since she had her own cat still following trailing close behind her.

"Judging from the amount of cats I saw walking here it's an island wide invasion," Silver said. "I'm certainly not complaining though."

"As invasions go, this isn't so bad," Rey said, as the cat pawed at her leg until she bent to pick it up. "Even if they're a bit clingy."

She loved it.

"They are pretty adorable," Silver said. "How was your trip?"

"A lot of fun, if not at all what I expected," she admitted, setting the cat in her lap. "I thought it was more of a cultural tour of Europe and instead it was amusement parks."

"Judging from your photos it looked very chaotic," he said. "But I'm glad you enjoyed yourself even if it wasn't what you expected."

"Chaotic is a good word for it. I'd never actually done the ride thing before and now I'm a fan," Rey said. "One park was actively haunted..."

"What makes you say that?" he asked.

"The ghosts," she answered.

"Forgive me if I seem a little dubious," he said. "I know in the back of my head that I should believe just about anything after being on this island for more than five minutes but ghosts is apparently where I draw the line."

Probably due to the fact that he was constantly telling his crew to stop being so damn superstitious about ghosts.

Just wait until Field of Dreams came back around.

"I might have said the same in the past, but it's different when you can sense them there," Rey said, pulling out her phone to show him a picture of the creepy entrance of the abandoned park. "Also that even looks like it has ghosts."

"That does look rather eerie," he admitted. "Appropriate for the upcoming holiday."

People here took Halloween very seriously, he noticed.

"...That probably explains the rain and cats," Rey realized. "Do you have this holiday when you come from?"

Silver shook his head. "No, and I'm thankful for it. Pirates can scare themselves about ghosts and witches well enough without the help of a holiday."

"If these guys-" Rey gave the cat in her lap a little scritch. "-are part of a theme, you might really dislike the next week or so, then."

"It was raining candy yesterday so, yes, I think it is a theme," Silver said. "But seeing as I am not watching over two hundred superstitious men at the moment I believe I will survive it."

"And maybe some of it could even be fun," Rey pointed out. "The holiday itself didn't seem too bad."

Murder clowns aside.

"It's all about scaring people and eating candy, right?" Silver asked. "I admit that does sound appealing so long as no one is trying to scare me."

"And parties and costumes. I don't really understand that last part," Rey admitted.

"Maybe it's part of scaring people?" he suggested.

"Maybe? It seems more like an excuse to reference pop culture and not wear clothes," Rey said.

"Why on earth would someone want to do that?" Silver asked. "It's freezing outside."

Oooh he was in for a world of trouble in the winter.

"Attention?" Rey guessed.

"Well that's one way of getting it," he said. "I think I will pass on that aspect of the holiday."

"There are things called coats, you know," Rey said, amused.

"I wouldn't even know what to dress up as."

"I'm not sure how great I am with ideas," she said. "But if you were up for it, I'm sure I could help."

"Jaskier might have suggestions to help us," Silver said. "That sort of thing seems to be his forte."

"I feel like that would at least be entertaining," Rey considered.

And maybe he meant 'us' as in 'Rey helping Silver out' and not as in 'Rey has to wear something too' like she was hoping.

Yes, Silver could see the that little loophole there. Which is why he added, "I am not doing this alone, by the way."

"I have no idea what I'd be," Rey said, which was not a defense when that'd also been his problem.

"Well then I guess I would have to help you like you said you would help me," Silver said with a smirk.

"Yeah, that one backfired on me," she said.

Which of course still meant she was going to go along with it.

Silver chuckled. "I have a terrible habit of grasping opportunities when one is presented before me. And I refuse to be ridiculous alone."

"You would not be ridiculous. I'm sure you could pull off anything you ended up in," Rey told him.

"And I can say the same thing about you," he said.

"That's because you've never seen me in a dress," she said lightly.

"You've never seen me in a dress either," Silver joked.

"Okay, point," Rey laughed.

Just don't hit a cat.
