The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening
The Samsara was still in Baltimore.
And yet Octavia was here. A reminder she couldn't remember setting had popped up on her phone when she'd been at the aquarium - for the third time this week, yeah - and somehow she'd ended up accepting it as the thing she should do today, even though coming back terrified her. Even if it was just for a night. Even if she didn't even tell anyone she was coming back.
Tiny seemed surprised to see her, and she couldn't blame him.
But here she was, behind the bar, after a long absence.
The Devil's Nest was open.

Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
in SP.Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
Or at least as politely as Jessica could muster.
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
(Of course it had to be bourbon, though. Of course.)
She gave the other woman a nod - a bro nod, let's be honest - as she went to pour her drink. There was absolutely no attempt at small talk before she slid the glass in front of her.
"There you go."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
Unless Lucifer showed up.
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
That was definitely an oversimplification.

(Wasn't personal, it was just how she was.)
"That one."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
She finished her drink and motioned for a refill. "Then maybe I need to buy you a drink. I was a pony for two days and wanted to punch someone. Can't imagine how you felt."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
Not that Octavia could actually remember more than flashes and impressions of it, and maybe that was a blessing.
"It was fine," she said flatly, going for that refill. "Just ate up a month of my time."

She trailed off. It wasn't as straightforward a thing to count as it might have seemed.
"Three years or so." Close enough. "You get used to it."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
"Three years. Clearly you're a veteran," Jessica noted as she took another gulp of her drink. "I just came here to follow up on a case I had back in New York. Decided to stick around. Not sure I'll be here that long."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
And then she'd spent a good chunk of those seven years desperately wishing she could get back. But, details.

Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
And there was absolutely no telling how she felt about anything when she said, "Happened to me twice."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
"Forced here, went back and then sent back again," Jessica said as she drained her glass. She pursed her lips in thought and gestured for another drink. "I can't even imagine what that might be like."
Re: Have a Drink [DN 11/18]
And instead, there was Octavia at the bar.
He stood frozen in the doorway for a moment, just watching her. She was still the most gorgeous woman he'd ever seen, and whatever else he might think or feel about her at any given time, it was a joy just to watch her work.
But the last he'd seen of her, she'd been screaming at him and running away. And while Lucifer said she wanted to talk things out, he was pretty sure a bar was not the place to do it. He'd had enough meltdowns in public in this town already, thanks.
So after a long moment, and a tiny headshake to Tiny to let him know not to pour a bourbon, he darted back out onto the street. Maybe he'd go show up trashed on Lucifer's doorstep in her honor instead.
