Community Center Class- Philosophy 101- Thursday evening

Jaye~~'s icons were the same because she had these at 16~~ didn't look a ton different when she rolled up to class today. Younger. Of course, but her look was about the same. Maybe people would note that if they were normal and saw her take a seat with the others.

And after a while, she asked, "Is anyone gonna teach this thing?"

She was two years from taking philosophy classes, she knew nothing.

Mingle! Jaye is among you!

So Steve had "PHILOSOPHY CLASS" scrawled onto his calendar and a night class sounded super grown up even if the class seemed kinda boring, so...here he was.

"Big philosophy guy?" Jaye asked him.

Steve shrugged. "Apparently? I had it on my calendar and everything."

"Same. Figured it might be a good way to kill time," Jaye shrugged. "Or at least I could mock the teacher."

Steve looked vaguely scandalized by the idea of making fun of an authority figure, but there was a girl talking to him and she was cute and he didn't want to seem like a huge stick in the mud so he nodded. "I'm Steve," he said. "McGarrett."

"Jaye. Tyler," she said. "I don't think I've seen you around here before."

Which wasn't a huge shock, since people came and went here all the time.

"Yeah, I'm new, I guess," Steve said. "I used to live in Hawai'i."

Which explained the three layers under his jacket.

"That's cool," Jaye admitted. "And now you're here."

Poor guy.

"At least the beach is still close?"

"And you probably won't get yanked into the ocean by a giant squid," Jaye agreed.

Steve looked like he wasn't entirely sure that would be terrifying or very cool. "Only probably?"

"I haven't heard about it personally so the odds are likely low," she said, casually.

"I could probably punch an octopus if it got too close, right?" Steve mused.

"It'd be impressive if you tried," Jaye said thoughtfully.

"Well, I do like to be impressive," Steve said with a smile he thought was charming.

"Do you?" Jaye asked, in a tone that said she'd hear him out.

Steve nodded. "I'm a good student and a decent athlete?"

Jaye wasn't that impressed with the first part. "What kind of athlete?"

"Football," Steve said. "I'm a quarterback."

"And you're talking to me?"

Which was weird, because jocks usually avoided her. Partly because she was anti-social at normal schools, partly because she was kind of a bitch.

"Well, no one else from the team would be at a philosophy class," Steve said a little dryly.

"Touche," Jaye conceded. "Points in your favor."

"Do you think there's a teacher actually coming?" he asked, glancing around.

"No idea. But I say we institute the five minute rule."

Was that a thing in 2020 still? It definitely was when Jaye was using it in 2006.

"And get coffee?" Steve said.

"Yeah. Sure, why not?"

She was probably between boyfriends/dates/flings right now.

Young Steve did have some game, after all!

He beamed at her. "Cool. I'm freezing."

Uhhh.

Go figure this is the week I don't forget to post.
