So Steve had woken up--as an adult again--on the floor of the living room in a pile of blankets, pizza boxes, and Danny...and so that was why he was at the Trooper Station two hours early.

Hiding.

Like a grown up.

The Troopers weren't making eye contact in case it reminded Steve to make them run laps.

The Trooper Station was open, and repressing like hell.

Of course he pulled his weird runner before Danny could function properly and yell at him for being a moron. Which was why Danny showed up at the station to yell at him for being a moron.

But he brought donuts, so that helped.

"Catching up on your paperwork?"

He had been doing zero amount of paperwork.

"Well, you know how paperwork gets, Danny. It waits for no one."

Except for how it literally just sat there.

"Except me, of course." He knew you too well, Steven.

[grenadesandohana]

"Thank you," Steve said, promptly pushing the pile over.

[hatesparadise]

"Nope." Don't think he would let you off the hook here. "You okay now?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" Steve asked.

[hatesparadise]

Oh, Steve. Steve.

"Well, you ran out like hell was on your heels," Danny pointed out. Kindly.

[grenadesandohana]

"I was late for my run!"

Steven.

[hatesparadise]

"Babe."

[grenadesandohana]

"I'll clean up the blankets when I get home," Steve muttered, hoping that was maybe what Danny was upset about.

[hatesparadise]

"Not the issue," he replied dryly.

[grenadesandohana]

"It's not?" Steve asked, sipping from his coffee to get some space.

[hatesparadise]

Danny watched him go and held in a sigh for all of five seconds before going on ahead with it. Shoving Steve through the steps of self realization was the worst because it didn't ever always work.

"You upset about being vulnerable?"

Trust Danny to just put it out there for him.

"I wasn't vulnerable," Steve blustered.

[hatesparadise]

"You were a teenager," Danny pointed out. "A scrawny teenager."

And oh god, did the Danny now want to shove food at that kid even more than he normally did.

"I wasn't scrawny!" Steve said because this was a much easier argument to have. "Just because I didn't look like I'd wandered into a gym and not been able to find the way out again--"

He meant you had impressive teenaged biceps, Danny.

[hatesparadise]

Danny was sort of trying to take that as a compliment, yes.

"Uh huh," he replied, shoving a donut at him anyway. "Look, I know you want to be able to control everything, but--and this physically pains me to admit--it wasn't terrible. The whole situation wasn't terrible."

High praise from Daniel Williams.

Steve ignored the donut because he had like four pizzas to exercise out. "That's high praise," he teased.

You're killing the Italian grandma inside him, Steve.

"Ergo," Danny powered on. "Nothing to be weirded out about. Got to meet you as a teenager. Didn't even get into a fight. Consider it a win."

"You were much more open to pineapple pizza as a kid," Steve teased.

[hatesparadise]

"I was young and stupid," Danny countered. "You were stubborn as usual."

[grenadesandohana]

"But I could make a mean blanket fort," Steve said, grinning.

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah," Danny huffed, shaking his head and laughing quietly despite himself. "Yeah, you did."

"I still can, but it's not really appropriate for adults," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"I'll keep that on the list of things Steve McGarrett is weirdly good at," Danny replied dryly.
