The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

There was no DJ tonight. But the playlist wasn't the usual Lucifer-approved piano bar-y one, either. Octavia had gone prodding at the sound system a couple of times already, but it kept reverting to the same thing.

So, guess you were listening to Violent Femmes tonight, club goers. Octavia wasn't sure how she felt about it.

(She would be even less sure once the playlist would actually hit Add It Up. But it wasn't there yet.)

Jessica walked into the bar and stopped to listen to the familiar intro to one of her favorite songs. And nodded in approval.

She headed to the bar and gave Octavia a nod of acknowledgement. "I like this better than what Lucifer was playing last night," she said to Octavia. "Think he'll be offended if I tell him that?"

"Oh, dramatically," Octavia drawled. "He'll just forget about it almost as fast."

"I'll make sure to do it then," she replied. "I mortally offended him when I tried to force cheap whiskey on him last night. It's good entertainment."

"Not something I've ever indulged in --" That was a lie, but, it had been a long, long time ago. "-- but guess you better get your fun wherever you can get it."

Small shrug.

"Can I get you something?"

"Whiskey. Bottom shelf and make it a double," Jessica said leaning on the bar a bit. "Which is how I usually get any fun."

Octavia snorted, quietly, but went to do just that.

With no small talk involved, of course.

Duke lived! wandered in on a break from trying to get a sauna installed on his boat, and offered Octavia a broad smile.

"Ha yun, gona. Feeling a little nostalgic today?"

This was the kind of music she'd listened to before the bunker, after all.

Octavia perked up a little at the sight of him. She kept telling herself more space to breathe - for both of them - was a good thing, but it also meant she didn't see him as much.

And right now, she was getting a reminder about how much she liked seeing him.

Her expression still remained mostly dry, though. Just... a little soft around the edges, was all. "I didn't pick this, jaka," she drawled. "The club did."

Octavia sighed, leaning against the bar a little.

"How would I know, Duke?"

The withering look he was getting now was a little heavy on the tired as opposed to the dry it was meant to be.

But it was still a look.

"Fine," Octavia said, practically on autopilot, then almost wincing as soon as she heard hersefl saying it. "You?"

"I'm putting a sauna in on the Rouge," Duke said. "Getting an order of tile in tomorrow after work."

Well, at least the confusion shook everything else out of Octavia's expression.

Well, Shunsui had said he would try and swing by the Devil's Nest on occasion now that Octavia was working there, and while he couldn't help feeling a little like a lack of visit at the store was a sign that his presence might not be exactly appreciated...things like that hardly stopped him before.

Plus, she actually was there when he popped his head in, and that hadn't always been the case since they had that conversation, or his last stop in.

"So," he greeted her with a grin as he flounced on up to the bar, "have we progressed beyond beer yet, Octavia-chan ♥?"

Octavia did have an awful track record with actually making her shifts since her return. And an even worse one with trying to hold on to old traditions (or to make new ones).

She looked up with a soft little snort. "A little?" she offered. "I know how to pour a brandy, too."

She knew a few more things than that.

"Fine," Octavia said, shrugging a little as she went to reach for the brandy. She would've said that regardless, though. "Seems like a pretty ordinary club night from this side of things, at least."

You know, apart from the club's insistence on causing her to feel some vaguely sad nostalgia, anyway.
