Well! Apu-san was certainly in a terrible mood that day! Apparently, people kept asking him where to find the duct tape, which then caused him to explain in increasingly exasperated tones that they didn't carry any, they hadn't carried any in a very long time, so long ago that even he couldn't even remember exactly why they didn't carry any....

But Shunsui was going to let his faithful associate handle all of that, because he was going to be busy doing important things behind the counter, like catching up on his napping and drinking, and, of course, updating Summer-chan's sign.

It was, at this point, a time-honored tradition.

This week, Octavia wasn't out of town, wasn't in a whole other state. Wasn't even having one of those days that made her not want to deal with anyone at all.

So Octavia was here.

And eyed that sign on her way in with a wry look.

And at the sound of someone entering the store, Shunsui cracked open an eye from his nap, grinned faintly, and closed his eye again, deciding that he was a bit too comfortable at that moment to move until she was perhaps a little closer, especially if there were groceries to be obtained first.

"Konnichiwa, Octavia-chan ♥."

"Konnichiwa, Shunsui."

She paused for a moment, watched him looking so peaceful there. (Though when did he not, honestly.) And, yes, chose to go get some of her groceries first.

With its tiny kitchen, the Samsara was constantly running out of something.

And that choice suited him just fine, with a small breath of a laugh of amusement, considered (briefly) seeing if she might need help, decided it was much better for them both to merely call out "Should you need any help finding anything, Octavia-chan, don't hesitate to ask ♥!" before settling in to swipe up just that wee bit more of a half-nap before her shopping was finished.

Octavia made it back to the counter what felt like an entire day later, thanks sudden burst of RL! eventually, with several things in her shopping basket. Nothing particularly interesting.

"Found everything."

Yeah, no one had actually worried you wouldn't, Tavi.

That same eye cracked open again, and Shunsui shifted to lift his hat to better peer over and see what she'd collected.

"That's all, Octavia-chan?" he asked with a sleepy grin. "With such a remarkable discount at your disposal ♥. Perhaps you should stock up more ♥."

Octavia looked at her items. "I don't need anything else," she said. "This is it."

She was kind of terrible at shopping, yeah.

"Well," said Shunsui, chuckling faintly over the endearing fact that it apparently didn't occur to her to even grab one extra thing in light of this faint teasing, and producing a small cup with seemingly just the flip of his hand, "perhaps I could at the very least interest you in an additional special promotion for free sake ♥?"

Octavia was several years past anyone's teasing moving her to do things she didn't have an interest in, alas. The reasons weren't particularly endearing, either.

She gave a tiny shrug. "Not sure that one's much of a special promotion --" More like tradition. "-- but sure."

Well, yes, that was the joke...

After the briefest of hooded glances to try and determine whether this was mere stubborness or simply the tide of more apathy washing back in, or simply something else that he still hadn't managed to penetrate about her these days, Shunsui poured the sake and offered out the cup.

"I think," he drawled lightly, "it is an excellent promotion...and very special, at that ♥."

It was conversation, just with the sarcasm watered down with mildness so much that it was more implied than anything else.

In short, it was just Octavia.

She shrugged again, then reached for the cup. "You're the expert," she said. "I don't do promotions, at the club."

Maybe he'd just fallen out of practice, then...

"Oh, you should ♥," he mused. "I can't think of a single promotion I've done that I've come to regret ♥."

"I think that involves too much caring about sales," Octavia drawled.

Before pausing to consider who she was talking to.

"Or at least some kind of desire to have more people come by."

Oh, you mean he wasn't turning a profit on heavy discounts for a significant swatch of the island's population?

That pause managed to pull at Shunsui's grin a little more, though.

"You've chosen an interesting profession if that's the case, Octavia-chan ♥."

"I didn't choose it," Octavia said, after a sip from her cup. "I needed a job because I needed money, and Lucifer probably exchanged sexual favors to get me a night at the club."

It wasn't her fault the island seemed to be built around customer service!

Some involved significantly less direct contact with customers that others, though. Some of those shops probably got a person in it once in a literal blue moon.

But that was neither here nor there to the fact that Shunsui didn't think he'd ever get used to the idea that Octavia now was apparently perfectly content to do anything that she didn't choose to.

Well, content wasn't exactly the right word, was it?

Complacent?

English was hardly his first language...

So the quip and the slight breath of amusement was slightly delayed.

"I'm sure that must have been a terrible trial for him, too ♥," he noted, finally getting around to pouring his own sake. "You do enjoy at least some aspects of it, though, I should hope?"

Not to worry, both Duke and Lucifer could have told him there were still many things were Octavia was extremely unwilling to compromise on what she wanted, to an incredibly frustrating degree.

But with something that was unavoidable, like having to earn money? She didn't have the energy.

"It's fine," she said. "Place has an axe range." So that was an easy step up from most other businesses on the island.

Well, what energy could even be left?

"Do you get much use out of it?" Shunsui asked, with a thoughtful, almost lazy sort of sip from his cup.

Tiny shrug. "Sometimes, if I feel like it."

A lot of the time, she didn't. But she liked that it was there, as an option.

"It's more useful than just staying behind the bar all night."

[sake_shinigami]

"Especially if you're successfully managing to avoid all those pesky people that might come by ♥," Shunsui mused lightly. "Maybe you can give me some tips; we don't deal much with axes in the Soul Society..."

What, with that whole 'swords are your soul' thing, and all...

"...and it's hardly a very pacifist pursuit..."

The shrug was more in her tone than in her shoulders, this time.

"I can show you sometime," Octavia said. "It's not a very complicated thing." Well. If you already knew how to successfully throw similar things at a target, anyway.
