The Devil's Nest, Friday Night

Lucifer was still mulling over a bit of his conversation with Linda from earlier that day when he finally made it down to the club. As such, he didn't immediately climb behind the piano, though he was planning to knock out some symphonic metal later on.

It felt like a symphonic metal sort of night.

Instead he wandered towards Tiny and started peppering him with questions about his love life.

... it made sense in his head, all right?

When Lucifer gets bored and returns to the piano.

At the bar, or behind the piano.

There were no leaves or twigs in Octavia's hair when she came to the club in the evening. In fact, her hair had been pulled back into a fairly neat ponytail. (Wasn't her usual thing, but wasn't totally unheard of, either.)

Lucifer wasn't at the piano when she came in, and she preferred it that way. "Hey."

Lucifer turned away from the bar and lifted his glass in greeting. "Miss Octavia," he said, "Cleaned up nicely, I see."

For her standards.

Octavia snorted as she made it to him. "Didn't want you to get flustered about having to face the outdoors."

"I'm hardly flustered by the outdoors," Lucifer retorted, "I just prefer admiring it from indoors."

"That sounds like something someone who gets flustered would say."

Lucifer rolled his eyes. "What can I get Tiny to get you so you'll cease snarking for all of five seconds?" he asked.

Octavia glanced behind the bar, then back at him. "Apple soda."

She wasn't really feeling like alcohol right now.

"You heard the woman," Lucifer said, gesturing at Tiny. He glanced back at Octavia. "And how were your last few hours in the woods?"

"They were fine," Octavia said. "Visited a few spots I haven't been to, since..."

Well.

"In a while."

"I didn't realize it was that big," Lucifer said thoughtfully.

"It's bigger than it looks on the outside." And that was one of the best things about it. "Easy enough not to go to the same places all the time."

"Yes, but you spend rather a lot of time there," Lucifer pointed out. "It has to run out of places eventually."

"I don't think I've said anything about not 'running out of places'."

A pause.

"I don't even know what you mean by that."

"I just mean it seems a bit impossible to be there for weeks and not see everything rather frequently," Lucifer said, as Tiny walked up to Octavia with her drink.

Octavia shrugged a little, then gave Tiny a little nod of thanks as she reached out for her soda. "Then I guess you haven't been listening."

"Were you avoiding these places, then?" Lucifer asked, watching her.

"That should've been your first thought," Octavia rasped.

That was actually neither a yes or a no, but she was going to sip her soda, now.

You'd known Lucifer for a while now, Octavia. When did he ever jump to the logical conclusion right off the bat?

"So were you?" he asked.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore," Octavia told him mildly over the edge of her glass. "How was your day?"

"Spoke to Dr. Linda, found out my LA is running at half or a third of our current speed right now, then Duke came over, that was an improvement," Lucifer ticked off.
