Silver was once again very thankful he had avoided turning smaller this weekend. He could think of few things worse than reliving his childhood again and he hated being reminded that he even was a child at any point.

It was making for some rather sullen drinking this evening.

He was there, doing his best to clear the place of rum.

The last time there'd been a de-aging thing, Silver had gone the distraction route. So with this weekend happening, Rey felt like she should come and check in.

"So glad to not see kids in here," she admitted. It wasn't that she disliked kids at all, just... bar. With axes.

"I probably would be hiding in the supply closet if there were," Silver admitted. "I'm not much for children."

"Really? But they're so cute."

Unless it was AU kids and then it tended to be Very Complicated for her.

Oh he is absolutely going to hate AU kids.

"I don't really have much experience with them," Silver admitted. "Pirates aren't really the type to settle down and have families so it's not like they were running around on the ship."

"That would really probably make pirating a little difficult," Rey allowed. "I don't have much experience with them, either, I just get along with them."

She hadn't had experience with kids even when she was a kid.

"Well you're an easy person to get along with," Silver said. "I just don't know what to do with them."

"Talk to them, mostly," Rey shrugged. "You're welcome for the fact that I didn't turn seven on you."

Also because that would have just ruined her week.

"I am extremely relieved," Silver. "I have my doubts that it's as easy as just talking to them."

"It depends on the kid," she said. "Annie assisted in a toy operation today, and I had one last year who was told enough that he did a lot of his own thing. You just have to feel them out a little."

"Does this happen very often?" he asked. Because the teens followed by the kids in the span of 3 months was a lot for him.

"This happens every year. Then there's a weekend where potential children from different universes show up," Rey told him. "We're actually probably due for that in the next few months."

"Children from different universes," he repeated. "I'm not sure what that means."

"I'm surprised no one's mentioned it," Rey admitted. "Basically children come through some portal, and say, you and I might have one, but you also have one with Jaskier from some universe where that happened somehow."

There were probably better ways to explain that.

"They leave after the weekend," she added.

Oh. Well, that sounded absolutely terrible and he hoped he would avoid that as well (not going to happen).

Wait.

"Wait, how would I have a child with Jaskier?"

"Alternate universe technology?" She shrugged. "It doesn't always make sense."

"Oh, okay," he said, looking relieved. "Here I thought I was going to learn something new about anatomy."

"No," Rey said, laughing a little. "Though if it happens for real, please ask the question of how."

"Oh don't worry, I will," he said. "Did you get one of these children before?"

"Twice. And it was terribly awkward both times," she answered.

"I imagine it would be any time," he said. "Were they with strange people?"

"The first was with Kylo Ren, before I'd even met him. That was... not okay." She was still creeped out by that. "Last year it was with Luke."

...and that kid had been named Ben, look she recognized just how fucked up it all was.

Well now Silver was even more terrified of this happening to him.

"That's terrible."

"Last year's wasn't a bad kid. It was all just... uncomfortable," she said.

"I imagine so," he said. "Bad kids or no it's something I would like to avoid altogether."

"Because you don't know what to do with them?" she asked, tilting her head just a little.

"Partially," he said. "It's also something I never wanted for myself. Being a parent, I mean."

"That's probably a good thing to know about someone you're dating," Rey realized, and it probably said something about where that was on her priority list that it really hadn't occurred to her to consider that.

"Oh. Yes, I suppose you're right." He hadn't put much thought into it either. Then again, it had only been a few months. "Does it bother you?"

"No. I don't know that it's something I want to do, either. At the very least, not for a long time," Rey said. "It's hard for me to look that far ahead right now."

"That is a good point," he said. "You already have enough to focus on."

"Exactly. And I probably wouldn't be any good at it anyway, so it's just not on my mind," she said.

"Until the island makes you think about it," Silver said. "This place can be harsh in its weirdness sometimes."

"It can," she agreed. "How many times has it done that to you so far?"

She actually expected him to deflect.

"Honestly? I've been pretty lucky there," Silver said. "Nothing too traumatizing."

Just the occasional thing that made him drink sullenly, no big deal.

"Very lucky," she nodded, and paused. "Just so you know, if there ever was anything, I'd listen if you ever wanted to talk about it."

Again, she wasn't sure he would. But she wanted to make sure he knew he could.

He gave her a soft smile. "Thank you. You can tell me too, if there was anything."

"I know. Though that's also a dangerous thing to tell me." She was pretty open about her issues when she felt she could be.

"You know, usually I try to avoid danger but in your case I'm willing to make an exception," Silver said.

"Good to know," Rey smiled.

No children allowed.

Where Eric may be.

I'm obsessed with the braids in his hair. Does he do them? How did he learn to put beads in it? Did Madi help?
