It had been a lovely, quiet weekend and Silver was more than happy to spend it having a lovely, quiet shift at the bar. Over the last eight months he had learned to appreciate these moments before something horrible and/or stupid happens.

He was there.

"Busy night?" Rey teased when she arrived.

"Oh, so busy," he said. "Hi."

"Hi. Were you in danger of being bored?" Rey smiled. "Is my timing good?"

"Your timing is always good," Silver said, sliding a soda towards her.

It didn't matter that she had the most obvious, boring order ever, she still liked that she didn't need to ask for it.

"Thank you," she said. "How are you doing tonight?"

"Bored, but enjoying the fact nothing weird is going on for once," he said. "How was work?"

"I had things to do, but it was quiet enough that I actually checked my manicure," Rey said, in a tone that said she knew exactly what a ridiculous sentence that was.

Silver laughed. "Not something I thought I'd ever hear you say."

"Yeah, I didn't like saying it, I'm not going to do it again," she said, wrinkling her nose.

"Your nails are very pretty," he said, reaching for her hands.

"Thank you," she said, giving his hands a little squeeze. "Is that a convenient excuse for touching?"

Because she was fine with that.

"Didn't think I needed an excuse to touch you," he said, rubbing his thumb along the top of one of her hands.

"You don't. In fact, I encourage it," Rey smiled, watching what he was doing with his thumb.

"Good," he said, lifting up one of her hands so he could press a kiss to it. "Did you enjoy getting a manicure? It's supposed to be relaxing, right?"

"It wasn't bad," Rey admitted. "Having someone do the whole process is very strange, but it doesn't really take a long time. Mostly Annie and I just talked through it."

"Would you do it again?" He remembered her saying she had trouble relaxing before.

"If this stuff stays on this time, sure. Otherwise there's not much of a point," she answered. "I'm pretty hard on my hands."

He smiled. "I don't know, you're usually pretty gentle with me."

"You're different. You're not work."

Kind of the exact opposite.

"That's nice to hear," he teased.

"It means things are going well," Rey grinned. "You're kind of who I go to when I want to feel good. That means gentleness."

And she didn't even mean that as just a sex thing!

"Well you could also come to me when you're feeling other emotions," he said. "And I'll try to turn them into feeling good."

"I know. I've been lucky there so far, between Fandom things, and back home things," Rey said, and added quickly, "Which I don't mind."

"I've been pretty lucky too," he said. "Though it helps I left my biggest stresses behind, I guess."

"When you say it that way, it sounds like a good thing," she said.

"It is, for the most part," he said. "I only feel slightly guilty about leaving my responsibilities."

"That isn't your fault. It's not like you planned on coming here," Rey pointed out.

"That's true, but I haven't exactly made much of an effort trying to get back, have I?" He had made no effort at all, actually.

"Do you actually want to? Get back, I mean." Don't mind her bracing herself for that answer.

"Of course not. It's probably better that they think I'm dead." There was just some guilt involved there.

While that was a relief for her, yeah, there had to be a lot mixed into that for him. "Then I wouldn't worry about what you should have done or not," she said, giving his hand another squeeze. "Easier said than done, I'm sure."

"I have a bad habit of thinking too much," Silver said. "But I will do my best."

"I've noticed a little," Rey said with a soft smile. "And you've always got me to think out loud to when you need it."

"I appreciate that," he said. "You do have a talent for that. Listening without judging."

Unfortunately that was one subject he was still avoiding talking about too deeply. He was not worried about her being upset about his previous relationship with Madi. However, he did worry about what she'd think of him discarding that relationship so easily.

"I've heard about some pretty terrible things," Rey said slowly. "It gives some perspective on what's worth judging."

That bar was so, so very high.

"That's fair," he said. "I suppose I've become the same way after the things I've seen."

Not that he had been very judgmental to begin with. It didn't really mesh well with being a thief or a pirate.

"I bet." Said non-judgily. "Maybe it's just something that happens the more life experience you get."

Or it put you in a position to judge harder, depending.
