Astrid had been receiving a few phone calls regularly that last week that she had been staunchly ignoring, because she recognized the California number even if the ID was Unknown. The arrival of the letter from Child Services only solidified her theory on what those phone calls were about. She didn't even bother listening to the messages that were left. All she knew was something she already figured: Ingrid did not agree to Astrid's attempts to file for emancipation, and Ingrid was very pissed off about it.
Good.
If she wanted to proceed, it would require a court order, and Astrid was pretty sure she'd meet the requirements. She would be eighteen this year, too, though, so, really, if she pursued it, she would only be doing it to make a point.
Which was why she was filling out more paperwork during her shift today, while ignoring a few phone calls she'd been getting from California numbers she didn't recognize and immediately deleting the voicemails that followed, in betweenn actually working and taking care of things around the shop.
