Blackstone Foundry and Forge; Friday [01/22].
Amaya had been spending an awful lot of time in the forge these days, not that you'd know it, but she was, honest! After all, teaching shop was pretty tried and true and as second nature as breathing these days, and she actually had a lot of outsourced jobs that had been keeping her busy, namely an exceptionally challenging piece commissioned by the King of Eastern Kolyma, an elaborate combination puzzle-crossbow for his daughter's birthday, which she was finally putting the finishing touches on, before taking a second to admire it and test it ou--

...okay, so maybe it needed just a bit more work, unless Amaya wanted to cause an international indicident by inadvertantly allowing the princess to shoot her eye out. The kid was just a wee lass, too, and while that would probably lead to a striking appearance with an eyepatch for her future, she somehow didn't think the king would appreciate it too much.
Back to work, then!
The Forge is open!

"Amaya?"
Seivarden stepped through the door.

Which packed quite a zing, but it was a little lacking on the control aspects, which was pretty important in a range weapon.
But then Amaya blinked up at the wall by the door.
"You know," she mused, "I should keep hard hats over there, for days like this. Wouldn't be the worst idea!
Then she finally seemed to notice who had stepped in.
"Ah! Seivarden! Good to see you! Not here to force me to stop for some tea, are you?"
no subject
"Amaya. Of course I am. If you're going to shoot any customers you clearly need tea."
Because tea was always needed.

"But I suppose a break wouldn't hurt. Maybe allow me to get to looking at this with some fresh eyes in a bit..."

Seivarden was a bit proud that she remembered.

"You'd be surprised."
But weapons made for a better topic than the undead, anyway, so a grin blossomed as she halted the elaborately decorated crossbow in the air.
"And it sure is! A bit of a special one; there's a variable puzzle on the latch that needs to be solved before it'll shoot. More novelty than practicality, but I do like the idea for it. It's a special order from back home, a king who's gotta daughter who loves shooting and solving!"

It was just over there, under the counter, but she was just going to take her time and let Seivarden sweat out exactly what she meant by 'improved on' just for even asking her such a thing.

"Materia slots!" Amaya announced triumphantly, pulling out the gun and holding it up with a beaming, proud grin. It looked quite a bit shinier than the last time Seivarden had seen it, and, sure enough, there was a small addition with two round little divets in it. "So now you've got the option to shoot lightning, fire, or ice with it, with the might materia set in."

Seivarden quickly realised what she had just said and added: "Which doesn't surprise me of course."
no subject
"You want to give it a few tries to see what I mean?" she asked, setting the gun on the counter so she could fish out a few of the small, shiny pieces of materia from underneath it.

Hopefully not randomly in the forge.
"They don't explode, do they?"
It was fine if they did, she just preferred to know in advance.

That poor, abused, surprisingly resilient and sturdy target...
"And if it does explode," she added, "it would have more to do with you, Ca--erm, Lieutenant, than it would the gun. I've fired it plenty without incident."
At this point, anyway! There was a little smoke in the first adjustments, but they'd long since been fixed!

"I'm glad to see that you've made good use of it," she said, aiming to compensate for the previous comment.
