Diaz & Ass., Monday [03/01].
Rosa had definitely put off dealing with whatever might be waiting for her in the office since getting back, though she wasn't sure what would be worse: if she was absolutely going to drown in stupid emails, or if there were absolutely none of them.
Actually, no, she took that back. Having none would be great. That was definitely the better of the two, so after she made herself some coffee and got settled behind her desk and pissed around on her phone with some stupid match-three game for a little while, she finally set the phone aside, leaned in, and switched the computer on.
Disappointed that it actually did turn on and didn't explode (which would have at least been interesting), she did have some messages to get through, but it wasn't a lot, and none of them involved either chickens or lobsters (she was really expecting at least a few things on that last one), so, all in all, it seemed like a pretty good start to the day, and now to just weed through what was too stupid to bother with and what might actually be worth some attention.
Diaz & Ass. is open!

Diaz & Ass. is open!

"Caught a case," she said out loud. Which could have been directed at Rosa or just to the room in general. "It's pro-bono. Probably take a lot of time."
There was a beat of time before she added:
"And it has nothing to do with bees."

"What about lobsters?" she asked instead. "Or..." She couldn't say this next part without open distaste, "chickens."
Funny how she used to complain about feeling like glorified Animal Control back at the station, too...

Were all their cases at the place going to deal with animals or insects?
"It's for-"
What? Friend? Old lover? Guy she used to bang? Someone she still had..
Nope. Not going there.
"-an old client. He got screwed and sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit. They did illegal experiments on him. Made him... different. He broke out and was on the run for a long time."
Jessica motioned to the piles of paper in front of her. "This documents everything. Him being framed and his treatment in prison. I'm corroborating it for the lawyers working his case. Just wanted to give you a heads up I'm working on something for free."
She looked a the pile of paperwork in front of her.
"It'll take time away from my work here. I'll make sure I'll still pulling my weight and my usual case load."

She was most just looking at Jones with one brow slightly quirked.
Because she sometimes forgot that, apparently, when Jessica actually did talk, she talked way too much, as if to make up for something, as if Rosa actually cared about the details that didn't even effect her.
Finally, though, turning back to her computer, she replied.
"If you need help," she said, "let me know. But fair warning. I don't work pro-bono."
If she had to listen to all the painstakingly details of your life, Jones, at least make it worth her time.

And went to work.
Because that was the most she had said to Rosa since she hired her. And it was exhausting.

She failed to suppress a small shudder in recollection of the event, shook her head to clear it, and shifted her focus back onto a potential infidelity case that seemed like it should be safe from any involvement with animals.
Or at least, goddammit, she hoped so.

She realized that this could mean sitting like this for a while, but she was banking on either his coffee eventually running dry or his inability to go a certain amount of time without making some smart ass comment, whichever came first.

He could sit for a while.

But Rosa's chair was nice and comfortable, and she was planning on being here all day, anyway. Slow day for business, too, she didn't have anything that needed her attention, so she was just going to sit there, and wait, the only indication of her growing impatience being the steady drumming of her fingers against one of her arms as she regarded him with stony, stubborn expectation.
So help her, though, if that was a bisque...

And Miguel could sip his coffee slowly, enjoying imagining the look on Rosa's face when she first tried it. Heck, if he did run out of coffee, he could still imagine it when he left. Hm. What were the chances of him being able to leave a camera here?
no subject
And funny, that he was imagining the look on her face when she tried it, while she was just sitting here imagining how it would look on his face.
The fact that it wasn't yet spoke volumes.
Which was much more than Rosa was actually speaking, although she did finally break with a simple, pointed, disappointed but wholly unsurprised, "Really? Soup?"

Practically a heatwave over here.
Not to mention the warmth of her pure fiery rage at there being lobster-related soup on her des right now.
That she admittedly kind of deserved.
Dammit.
