Trooper Station | Saturday

Diego was busy with the paperwork he had been too lazy to do last week, and he was kind of grateful for the distraction. While he was extremely happy for Annie and hoped she did nail her try out for The Seven, the words "long distance relationship" were scary ones. Now that he was alone (aside from the troopers) it gave him more time to think about it which was allowing him to think of how this could all go wrong.

So maybe not all of the paperwork would be done today. But more will be done than last week, which was something.

Liam was on his way to the radio station to cover today's broadcast, and figured he might as well stop in at the Trooper Station to see how their... guest... was doing.

Very well, apparently, since there was nothing in the cells save for a bowl of those freeze-dried marshmallows you found in cereal.

"Damn it," he sighed.

"Was it empty when you got here?" he asked Diego.

"I'll be honest, I wasn't paying much attention." He was such a good cop.

Liam would be upset, but... fey creature. It's possible it could've slipped out under the supervision of someone who wasn't super distracted.

(Fey creature obsessed with cereal, apparently, but details.)

"Lot on your mind?" he asked. Paperwork wasn't that absorbing.

"That's something nobody has ever really accused me of before." Look, he was aware of his himbo reputation, even if he didn't think it was true. "But, ah, not really. Annie's got some stuff coming up and I'm gearing up for supportive boyfriend detail."

He figured it was Annie's business if she wanted to share the news (it would be kind of devastating if she told a bunch of people and she didn't get the job), but he didn't mind sharing his part of it. It wasn't like anyone with eyes couldn't tell he was her biggest fan.

Too bad for Annie the squirrels made at least part of it everyone's business, but as Liam hadn't gone to the radio station yet to read that particular note, it wasn't an issue.

"Been there," Liam nodded sympathetically. Verity had more or less closed the door on her dancing career after the whole purge incident, but he remembered when she'd been trying to make that and cryptozoology work.

"Luckily it's not much of a hardship," he said lightly. "She makes it easy for me."

Famous last words. Though it wouldn't be Annie who made his life difficult. More so her future coworkers.

"I can tell," Liam said. "You two are good for each other."

"Thanks," Diego said with a small smile. "She's definitely good for me. I just try not to annoy her too much."

"Annoying someone you love on purpose can be fun," Liam admitted. "In reasonable doses."

Yes, he and his wife regularly trolled each other, how could you tell?

"In very reasonable doses," he said. "Annie could definitely kick my ass if she wanted to."

One of the things he loved about her, really.

"I don't doubt it," Liam said. "But I also think she could give as good as she gets with the- what's the word, 'trolling'?"

Sure, he was one, that didn't mean he was up on the slang.

"Hargreeves," Danny said with a little nod. Because he was doing paperwork and that made Danny proud of him.

Don't be proud of him, even in narrative! It made him uncomfortable!

"Williams," Diego replied. "Did your desk get fixed?"

TOO LATE, DIEGO.

"Yeah, just the track needed replacing. And Annie bribed me with donuts, so it's all fine."

"I'm not surprised that she did," Diego said. "At least it was the desk that got the worst of her bad mood and not me."

"Can pass on that sort of thing happening again, thanks," Danny sighed, tossing one of the snacks from the drawer on Diego's desk like a kindergarten teacher.

Diego accepted the snack happily, but he would never thank Danny for it. "I don't know, I didn't really mind most of last weekend."

Really, there had only been one bad day and it hadn't been that bad.

Danny made a face. "Really?"

"I mean, I was pretty chill on Saturday." Which had been weird, but nice. "Sunday...let's just say I was very affectionate."

The words 'incredibly horny' were probably more accurate.

"Monday was the worst of it, but it wasn't all that bad." He had been a little paranoid but he was paranoid most days?

"Swap Monday and Sunday and that was my experience too." It was a whole thing.

"Are you sure you had a chill day?" He didn't even think the island had the power to make Danny relax.

"I'll take those snacks back," Danny warned.

"Oh no, anything but that," Diego said, holding up his hands. "This is my only source of sustenance."

"Don't be a putz," Danny replied. "Yes, I am able to relax. Anxiety's just a bitch and a half."

[knife_bender]

"Sounds like it." Diego couldn't really relate. His anxiety came out in the form of always being ready for a fight. Hence the knives under his pillow. "You didn't even like the affectionate day?"

Which seemed safe and healthy.

Danny shrugged at that. "It was interesting," he said with a clear lack of commitment. Mostly because it was awkward as hell.

"I guess I got lucky that Annie and I got that on the same day," Diego said. "I think she wanted to strangle me when she was all pissed off and I just kept telling her to chill out."

[hatesparadise]

"...yeah, that's a surefire recipe for being decked," Danny replied slowly.

[knife_bender]

"She threw a cookie at me," Diego said. "That was about the worst of it. I would have punched me if I were her."

[hatesparadise]

"Luckily I didn't run into that issue," Danny said, shaking his head and sighing. "Kinda hoping for a quiet weekend now."

"Well that's just boring," Diego said.

"Go to Baltimore with Steve if you want some excitement." Danny, no.

[knife_bender]

"Okay!" Great, Danny. Now Annie was going to punch you in the face.

[hatesparadise]

Nah, he'd bribe her with wine and gossip. So he was safe.

"Don't call for bail."

[knife_bender]

"Please, we wouldn't get arrested." They'd both probably just end up shot a little bit.

"Or from the hospital."

Joke was on him, they'd drag their dumb asses home, bleeding all over the place.

You were right about that!

"Danny, we're adults," Diego said. "I think me and Steve can be left alone in a city without it burning down."

[hatesparadise]

"Debatable."

[knife_bender]

"What is it do you think will happen?" he asked. "Like, give me a scenario."

[hatesparadise]

"Explosions, gang violence, torture," Danny listed off. Because he'd worked with Steve for four years now, Diego.

"Yeah, I think it would be more like getting some beers," Diego said. "Maybe getting into a bar fight."

"If you stick to that, I will be thrilled." He really would be!
