Danny was sharing his and Steve's brilliant idea about a forensics lab for the island. For all that crime here.

"I'm just saying that it might be a good idea for those weird weekends or when snow tries to kill us all again," he said to a very dubious group of troopers.

Calvin raised his hand.

"No, not to figure out who ate the last donut. Its always Diego or Steve."

Calvin lowered his hand.

This could go on for a while.

"It's never Steve," Steve said, having no idea what he was being blamed for.

"It's probably Steve," Danny countered dryly.

"That's slander," Steve said, clucking sadly with his tongue.

"Sue me." He'd have to deal with Danny's stubbornness there.

"I'll add it to my list," Steve told him.

"Oh, you have a list, do you?" Danny asked, shooting him a deeply amused look.

"Longer by the day, Daniel," Steve replied, smirking back.

"It's got nothing on mine, babe," Danny replied, possibly using that word for the first time since everything was weird.

Something in Steve's eyes went a little...relieved...to hear that. "I'm sure yours is alphabetized and cross-referenced by the number of malasadas you needed to self-soothe," he teased.

"Nothing wrong with good organizational skills."

"I've seen your apartment when you're left to your own devices, Danny."

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah, but that's home. Without Grace around."

He could be a mess then.

"Someone who's organized is always organized," Steve told him loftily.

[hatesparadise]

"Or pathological in it," Danny countered.

[grenadesandohana]

"A tidy rack is the sign of a tidy mind," Steve recited.

[hatesparadise]

"Thank you for proving my point,"

Steve made a face at him.

[hatesparadise]

Danny snorted and shook his head. "Haven't killed me in the time we've been in the same apartment."

Maybe because it wasn't Steve's childhood home.

"Thought about it when you leave a pan to soak for three days," Steve muttered.

[hatesparadise]

"It was lasagna," Danny insisted. "The pan needed to soak!"

"The pan was waiting for Steve, the Magical Dish Fairy, to show up!" Steve retorted.

Nah, they weren't married.

"Or Steve, the Magical Dish Fairy was impatient," Danny replied. "Or should have offered to do the dishes since Danny cooked."

"I don't have to offer when I end up doing them," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"Because I almost always cook!" Yeah, old married couple.

[grenadesandohana]

"Grilling is cooking!"

[hatesparadise]

"Debatable!" It was single man cooking.

[grenadesandohana]

It was also hoping to get lucky cooking! Steve was a multitasker!

"What is there to debate?"

[hatesparadise]

"Grilling is throwing meat onto a fire. Which can only be accomplished some of the year," Danny replied. "Cooking involves more love."

And less with the goal of getting lucky.

"I grilled in February," Steve said. "Tell me how that's not love."

[hatesparadise]

"That was stubbornness, not love." Which, all things considered, might be the same thing in the McGarrett family.

"Isn't that pretty close to the same thing?" Steve asked.

[hatesparadise]

Was he implying that he loved Danny because he was too stubborn to back down now?

"No," Danny said with a laugh. "It's not."

[grenadesandohana]

"Huh," Steve said, grinning back. "Who knew."

[hatesparadise]

"Putz," Danny said with love. Surly, surly love.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve laughed. "Yeah, but you like it."

[hatesparadise]

"Lucky for you," Danny grumbled.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve's smile turned lopsided and he rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah. Maybe."

"Lucky for both of us," Danny corrected at that. "C'mon. Help me make this lab pitch."

"Oh, that's where you started?" Steve said, perking up. "Yeah! Hey, guys, this is seriously a good idea--"

[hatesparadise]

They had a tough audience for this discussion in the assembled Troopers who were still paying them any attention.

"Maybe one of you could be the lab tech."

And now it was a competition.
