It hadn't even occurred to Silver just how much he and Rey were homebodies until it had been brought up to him that they hadn't really been on an actual date. It just wasn't something that happened where he was from, but he was determined to fix it now.

Luckily the squirrels had told him about the holiday so he wasn't exactly surprised to find that it was pretty much dead in the restaurant. Well, at least the service would be fast.

"You're going to have to let me know if I get anything about this date thing wrong."

"Luckily if you get something wrong, I wouldn't really know," Rey told him with a smile. Anything she knew, she'd learned from tv in the dorms. "But I have a feeling you'll be fine."

"That's a relief," he said. "And don't think I forgot about you teaching me how to use chopsticks."

"I will do my best," she promised. "Though I can't guarantee how good my best will be..."

"It'll be better than my attempt, I promise you," he said. "I'm going to order something that will be less difficult to pick up."

"That's smart of you," Rey told him. "And you've also narrowed down your options that way. There are a lot of options."

"This menu is rather intimidating, isn't it?" He had ordered out enough to recognize a lot of the items, at least, but it was a huge menu.

"I used to order by pointing at the menu and seeing what that got me," Rey admitted.

Luckily she was the least picky ever.

Silver laughed. "That's a good way to find out what you do and don't like. Ever have any regrets doing that?"

"No, it's all been amazing," Rey said immediately. "Though Poe says there's probably nothing I won't eat so maybe I'm not the best judge."

"I'm kind of the same way," he said. "Too many times where you had to eat what was around or don't eat at all, I think."

"Exactly. And everything is better than portion bread," she said. "If There's food and it tastes like something, there's absolutely nothing to complain about."

"Is portion bread exactly what it sounds like?" he asked.

[thatwaslucky]

"You mix the flour with water and it rises instantly," she explained. So maybe yes?

[long_memory]

"That sounds very...bland." Though it would be cool to see it happen one time. It was kind of a novelty.

"It was. I was fifteen before I really realized things had flavors," she admitted, wrinkling her nose. "But it was easy."

Even he could make it!

He would figure out a way to mess it up!

"I was mostly afraid of accidentally dying from something I ate," he admitted. "Especially if I made it."

"I would still like to believe it wasn't that bad."

She did, though. She'd heard about the pig. She'd just like to be optimistic.

"I'll allow you to keep your delusions," he said with a smile.

"The really important thing is that now you have takeout and microwaves and me," Rey smiled.

"You are right about that," he agreed. "And if this date goes well, we could have more of those."

[thatwaslucky]

"Is there a reason this date wouldn't go well?" Rey teased.

"Could be some unfortunate chopstick accident," he said with a shrug.

[thatwaslucky]

"I think that would mean we could still go out, but we shouldn't use chopsticks anymore," Rey decided.

"It would be unfortunate to put a stop to the whole date thing due to one bad experience," he said with a nod. "But let's try not to have an unfortunate chopstick incident first."

"I promise to do nothing worse than drop things with mine," she told him.
