The park- Wednesday morning
Having Grogu around had made things easier for Rey over the last few days. She was still patrolling, still worried, but having someone to take care of was kind of nice, as distractions went.
The issue was that she felt like she maybe needed to be preparing for a bit of a long haul, if this was still going on with no idea of how to fix it, and there were probably things she needed. Sure, he got to sleep in a racecar bed (and you did not understand how cute that was) but she didn't have much else he might be interested in. Reading from the Jedi texts didn't make for good bedtime stories. It felt gutting, admitting to herself that this might not be over today or tomorrow or the day after that, but she was working on that deep-rooted denial thing and trying to be realistic while still being optimistic. So during today's patrol, she swung by the park with Grogu so he could figure out the flamingoes and she took a seat on a nearby bench to get out her phone and do a little bit of shopping.
And after five days of patrols and hoping to stumble across a hole, that was when one of the kriffing things showed up.
The other surprising thing was that while Rey really probably would have jumped down a hole to see what was in there when she was alone, she was absolutely not going to be doing that while caring for the galaxy's best fifty-year-old baby. No, instead her reaction was to Force bump his little pod out of the way of the hole while it sucked her in alongside a bunch of water instead.
[I mean the post is open but you can't talk to Rey.]

But she knew that little floaty pod thing, and tempted though she was just to keep scooting along, she reluctantly ran over to check on the baby inside.

But hey, there was Faye! She too was nice.

"Hey, sweetie," Faye greeted him, reaching into the pod to make sure he was okay. "Didn't you make a new friend when your buddy fell in a hole?"
Even Faye wasn't so dumb that she couldn't figure out what had happened here. At least Grogu hadn't gone with her.

Grogu's ears drooped a little as he waved a little hand at her.

From Faye's apartment. It was all that was in her freezer besides vodka.
At least Grogu would soon be moving onto a different friend, who would probably care more about his actual nutrition.
