Regardless of the threat of holes, dogs still needed to be walked, and that was why Steve was outside, carrying his shield and watching with resigned amusement as Patriot, strapped into a corgi-sized jetpack, peed from a foot off the ground.

"This is what happens when Tony is left unsupervised," Steve told the dog. "Hover-corgis."

"Is he managing it?" Tony called from a window.

"He's doing swell, but the splash zone has increased slightly," Steve said, moving his shoes out of the way.

"...I don't think I can fix that without getting a little too personal for both of us," Tony admitted.

Steve laughed. "Yeah, that's fair."

"Maybe that'll be a last case scenario?" he suggested.

"Hopefully this all fixes itself tomorrow?" Steve replied optimistically.

"We can always hope so," Tony replied as the dog floated past, paws waggling like he was walking.

"Patriot, get down," Steve said, laughing.

"He's having fun with it at least!"

That's what mattered.

"I'd say I can't believe you did this, but I absolutely believe you did," Steve said. "I believe you did this probably six months ago."

Steve laughed at him. "I adore you."

"I could work on some boots for you," he offered a touch anxiously.

"I'll be fine," Steve said.

He wasn't supposed to have come back to start with, but he'd ignored that request, too.

"Alright, but I'll get them out just in case." It would be too late and Tony would be sad and guilty over that.

Steve grinned at him. "Of course you will."

"They need tuning anyway!"

Look, this was just Tony being Tony in the face of a crisis.

And Steve found it incredibly endearing. "How long have you had them ready?"

"...how long is the least amount of weird?"

"Or you could just tell me the truth," Steve countered.

"Two years?" HE HAD TO. JUST IN CASE.

Steve grinned at him. "Thank you for taking care of me," he said earnestly.

"I just want to make sure you're safe," Tony replied sheepishly.

"You're amazing it it," Steve said.

Tony grinned, leaning further out the window and beckoning him over for a kiss.
