Magic Box | Tuesday

Wanda was in a much more productive mood this week, and had finally gotten around to opening the boxes that arrived last week. It was more Halloween decorations, shocking absolutely no one. This time, little tombstones with punny names on them to put out front.

She was, of course, armed with her first PSL of the season while she was standing out front trying to figure out the perfect tombstone placement.

Steve didn't mean to hover, but he was just a natural...hover-er. So there he was again, even though he'd seen her last night, to say hi.

"Hi!"

"Hi!" She had been expecting the hovering, really. "As you can see, I've taken the Halloween madness outside now."

"Well, it's almost time if you squint and ignore how it's more than two months away," Steve teased.

"The pumpkin spice is back," she said, waving her cup. "It's fall."

"It's August," Steve countered like an old, old man.

[scarlet_chaos]

"It's almost September," she replied. "Which is almost October."

Just wait until that twelve foot skeleton came in a couple weeks, Steve. It wasn't gonna stop.

He'd name it Bruce and be convinced he was hilarious.

Steve snickered. "But Halloween is almost November."

[scarlet_chaos]

"Well that's just crazy logic," she teased.

[heroic_jawline]

"That's me," Steve said. "Fun-killer."

[scarlet_chaos]

"I wouldn't say fun-killer," Wanda said. "More like fun-dampener."

"That's a little bit better," Steve decided. "How are you doing today? Other than getting an order of weird plastic gravestones?"

"I'm okay," Wanda assured him. "Kinda jealous I'm not on vacation like you, but other than that..."

"Tony and I are heading up to his old university tomorrow," Steve said. "Some kind of speech and award thing, I think. Rhodey promised me embarrassing college photos of Tony."

"Are you telling me Tony Stark might have had an awkward stage?" Wanda asked. "I don't believe it."

[heroic_jawline]

Steve giggled. "He had a perm."

[scarlet_chaos]

"...that's actually worse than I imagined." Said the woman who had a perm not so long ago.

"He was trying to look older," Steve said, "and couldn't grow a beard yet."

You're really selling this, Steve.

[scarlet_chaos]

"That is great," Wanda said, laughing. "Now I'm really jealous of you."

[heroic_jawline]

"I'll pass along the really good ones," Steve promised, "for team-building."

[scarlet_chaos]

Wanda laughed. "Well I can't speak for the rest of the team, but it would help me."

Steve was a secret troll.

"That's what I thought," he said brightly.

[scarlet_chaos]

"I guess I'll hold down the fort here while you and Tony are gone," Wanda said lightly. "I think it'll be quiet for a bit after this past weekend."

Hopefully.

"I really hope so," Steve said sincerely. "The new kids don't show up until Saturday."

"I'll call you if it gets really insane, I promise," Wanda said with a solemn nod.

"I'll come right back to fend off the squirrel rebellion," Steve promised, grinning.

[what_the_shock]

Miguel read a few of the tombstones and snorted. "Those are definitely...something."

He gave Wanda a little wave, trying to remember if they'd met before.

"You haven't seen the inside," Wanda said. "It's been Halloween in there all month."

[what_the_shock]

"That seems a little excessive," Miguel said. He paused. "Then again, it is a magic shop, and hey, who am I to say anything? I wear a Dia de Muertos outfit all the time."

[scarlet_chaos]

Wanda shrugged. "I'm not the one ordering the stuff, I'm just putting them up. Don't want to insult the mysterious benefactor who loves Halloween."

[what_the_shock]

Miguel frowned in confusion. "Don't you own the place?"

[scarlet_chaos]

Wanda shrugged again. "I'm the only person that works here so...I guess? But nothing's stopping strangers from sending stuff here, obviously."

[what_the_shock]

"O-kay." Miguel shrugged. Whatever; some people were weird. "And who knows, if they like sending Halloween decorations to random shops, maybe they're the type to get offended if you don't use them."

He gave up. "I'm Miguel, by the way. I don't remember if we've met."

Hey, at least he wasn't calling her 'red-headed witchy person' or something instead of asking her name. That put him one up on Rosa, right?

"I don't think we have. I'm Wanda," she said. "Local witch."

[what_the_shock]

"Hey, didn't know we had one of those," Miguel said. "I'm the local...well, one of the local Spider-men, I guess. Even if the other one's less 'man' and more 'kid', but don't tell him I said that."

Sorry, Miles.

"So does that mean you sell real magic stuff here? I thought it was more rabbits from hats and things, although I guess around here there's no telling."

[scarlet_chaos]

"I didn't realize we had local Spider-men either." Though she wouldn't say Peter was a kid. Mostly because that'd be admitting she telekinetically threw cars at a child.

"We do have the cheesy stuff like rabbits in hats," she said. "But there's some legit books in there and weird ingredients I assume are for potions or whatever."

She wasn't a potions kind of witch.

[what_the_shock]

"So a little bit of everything," Miguel said. "The magic stuff, I meant, although I suppose we've got a little bit of local everything around here, too. Magic, aliens, mutants...haven't met any magical alien mutants, but I wouldn't be surprised."

"I've learned to accept pretty much everything I see around here." Even before that, really. "So, no, I wouldn't be surprised either."
