MHA, Landlord's apartment and around the building, Saturday

After Jon went out and checked around the building for any problems, he made his way to each floor and checked those, too. Even if he didn't own the place, he'd been somehow charged with managing it, and he'd be damned if he let whoever lived here deal with some of the things he'd had to deal with in his past flats.

Once he'd checked everything he could, he headed back down to his own place on the ground floor. He'd found a convenient (if, in his opinion, intrusive) sign for the door, announcing "The manager is IN/OUT", and with a sigh he set it to "IN" and hung it up.

There. He'd done his duty.

Stark had ended up at the coffee shop after all and was heading back to his apartment after his walk, very sugary iced coffees in hand.

He hadn't been expecting a mostly unfamiliar face doing whatever it was Jon was doing in the hallway and gave Jon a quizzical look before a hesitant "hello." He was very familiar with some of his neighbors. Some of them he wasn't even aware they lived in the building.

"Oh, um. Hello." Okay, the mask was a little odd. But he didn't seem like he was about to attack, so Jon could be friendly back. "I'm...um. Apparently I'm the new building manager? I just thought I'd have a look around."

He nodded and waved. "My name's Jonathan Sims. Jon."

[stykera]

The mask did stand out but Stark was definitely not going to attack, unprovoked. Probably not even if provoked if it was avoidable.

"Oh. I didn't know we had a new manager. Or an old one. Was there an old one? I'm Stark."

[intheeyeofthebeholding]

"I...I'm not sure," Jon admitted. "I only just moved here. But I'm in the ground floor flat, so if you need anything, you could come and get me. Or call, I suppose? I should probably put my number on the board."

Only then people might actually call, and he'd have to talk to them.

"I don't remember one but that doesn't mean there wasn't one. I might not have noticed." It wasn't like Stark had had need for a building manager. Someone else had already promised to get him new locks, after all.

"Were you looking for anything specific? Or just...looking?"

"Oh, just...making sure the lights all work and the smoke detectors, seeing the place looks in good repair, things like that," Jon answered. "I'm not really sure what else I'm supposed to be doing, but it seemed like a good start."

[stykera]

"The alarms work," Stark said with a small shake of his head. "Or they did recently. Very early in the morning." So early.

"I live in number 8," he added after a moment, nodding towards the door.

"That sounds...unpleasant? Especially if there was an actual fire."

He moved to get out of the way if Stark wanted to go past him.

[stykera]

Stark shook his head. "It was unpleasant. No fire. No smoke. A lot of noise but it was just noise."

Jon grimaced. "I hope they don't do that often." If people stopped evacuating and then there was a fire, that would be bad.

"Not often. It was only the once since I've been back," Stark said. "And that's over a year now. Last May."

[intheeyeofthebeholding]

"Ah, good." Jon nodded. "So, um. I'm interested if you do have any suggestions or complaints about the building." It seemed like a good thing to ask.

[stykera]

"No complaints I can think of," Stark said. Sure, someone very easily broke into his apartment once but that had ended very well.

"I have everything I need, I think." He didn't need much.

[intheeyeofthebeholding]

"Good. Good." Jon nodded. "Well, I, um. I should probably let you get home." He shuffled a bit awkwardly toward the stairs. "It was good to meet you."

It was probably a good idea for Stark to get inside before his coffees stopped being iced and started being just cold.

"Good to meet you as well," Stark said with a nod of his own before he moved towards his door. "And...welcome to the island."
