Devil's Nest | Monday Evening

"That just seems sort of unsafe," Annie commented to Tiny, eyeing the axe range-slash-stage situation. "And redundant since Caritas has a stage."

Tiny shrugged one massive shoulder, turning away from her because guess who hadn't missed his shifts with the Nest's chattiest blonde?

"Oh, man, are we gonna have karaoke here?" No response. "Tiny, if we do karaoke, we have to do a duet."

Oh, and now he was walking away from her.

"Maybe 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'!" Annie called after him, grabbing a glass to pour herself a shift beer. "Or 'Summer Nights'! Tell me more, tell me more, Tiny!"

Okay, so, maybe she knew he didn't like her. Maybe she was doing this on purpose, now.

Admire it. Throw an axe...? Plan future karaoke songs (?)

Perhaps the less-chatty blond who worked here could be found.

Sleepy, sleepy day over here.

After a week as a cat, Rey kinda just wanted to get out for a bit.

"It looks different in here." She was in here enough to mostly ignore certain things but things seemed to be escalating.

"I think we're getting a stage?" Annie guessed, totally unsure. "I dunno, I know we needed a remodel after it fell in the hole, but this seems like a lot."

After you took it into the hole with you, Annie. It didn't just fall in on its own.

"Whoa, this place looks...different," Wanda said as she approached the bar. "Hi, Annie."

"I'm still trying to figure out what's going on," Annie admitted, waving to Wanda. "I think it's mostly, like, an Eric-and-Lucifer thing?"

Annie just worked here part-time, you guys, and Tiny wasn't exactly filling her in on the gossip.

"Ah. I guess that's the benefit of working by myself," she said. "My store is turning into a Halloween wonderland and I know exactly who did it."

"Isn't the other bar the one for performing?" Not that anyone did.

"I like your skeleton," Annie told her, since he'd been hard to miss. "Are you, like, leaning into the Halloween thing specifically or are you gonna go full retail seasons and switch right over to Christmas on November first?"

Sometimes Annie did! Not in literal months, but she had.

"I know," Annie agreed. "I mean, we've always had a piano but I don't think anyone plays but Lucifer?"

But now she wanted to get a second pianist and make this a whole dueling pianos situation. Maybe Eric could play. Make some piano-playing lemonade out of these dick-measuring lemons.

"I actually get the Halloween stuff mailed to me randomly?" she said. "I have some mysterious benefactor who just sends it, so I put it out."

Either that or she's been getting blackout drunk and ordering from Amazon, which was pretty unlikely.

"Anywhere but here, I'd worry about that," Annie decided, frowning a little. "But we get random beer shipments and stuff here, too, so it sounds like it's just one of those things that happens."

Either that or come October 31st, that skeleton was going to come to life and they'd have to fight it, but Annie didn't feel like she needed to worry Wanda with that possibility. (Plus, honestly, if anyone around here could handle that kind of thing on her own....)

"Get you something to drink?" she added brightly.

"Can I have a rum and coke?" she asked. "Heavy on the coke, please."

She knew you had a heavy hand, Annie.

Annie gave her a little smile, pouring a totally reasonable -- almost conservative -- amount of rum into a glass before reaching for the soda gun. "Other than ready for Halloween, how've you been?"

"Can't complain. Just a lot of studying mostly," she said. "What about you? Any exciting saves?"

"I've never heard it played," Rey shrugged, though she purposely avoided certain nights too. "It'll be interesting to see what we get next week."

"Kinda! We saved a school bus that was being held hostage last week," Annie shared. Granted, Annie had been almost reluctant to go because she'd been knee-deep in Hargreeves stuff at the time, but still! A save! "There's only four of us really in service right now so it felt good to be able to actually have a purpose."

Besides, like, singing and looking hot.

"I told Tiny if there ends up being a stage, we're doing a duet," Annie told her. "He seems reluctant."

That was a way to put it.

"Soda?" she added. "Or something stronger?"

"Oooh that's, like, classic hero saving stuff," Wanda said. "I don't get to do that very often, I'm jealous."

Usually her line of heroing was more apocalypse based.

"Soda," Rey said. "I spent a week as a cat, I'm still easing into things."

"I actually don't, either," Annie admitted. "But you'd think that people would cut that kind of thing out with known superhero teams around, you know?"

Like, you'd think the threat of getting lasered or blasted or punched by the strongest woman in the world would be a real big check in the 'con' column when considering, 'Should I do this crime?'

That gave Annie some pause, even as she was reaching for the Dr. Pepper gun. "You were a cat for a whole week? Yikes. How was that?"

Diego hadn't seemed to mind it that much, but he'd also been a cat for, like, half that time.

"They might think that their tiny crimes don't warrant a superhero team," she said. "The Avengers only really get called out for big stuff."
