The Perk - Wednesday Afternoon

After her classes were finished for the week Jo had decided to try something a bit different and had opted for a hot cocoa at the Perk, it wasn’t as good as the ones from home but it was still nice to have.

Now that she had been here for a few weeks, she was working on a letter to her friend Deirdre, the last time she wrote had been before she left to go to Fandom and so was updating her on what her new school was like. She did consider asking if she could come visit Fandom for Parents Weekend but she was kind of scared to ask Miss Grayling for permission for Deirdre to visit considering how everything at ended at her old school so she had opted to not bring it up, maybe next year she’d arrange it.

Harry didn't really do coffee, but it was a good spot to work on his own letters home, so he got a pastry and found a nearby table, giving a little wave of acknowledgement.

And then remembered that he'd kind of met her already when he was a true crime podcaster.

Jo still hadn’t been sure what exactly happened that day but she smiled and waved back, “hi,” she said.

"Hi," he said, and felt the need to add, "I don't normally ask people about murders."

“I had wondered what that was about,” Jo admitted, “is that a thing people do here? Asking about murders?”

"I don't think so. At least, I hope not," Harry said. "But I thought my audience that I don't actually think I had cared a lot."

“It’s rather peculiar here,” Jo replied, a bit of an understatement there Jo, “it’s very different from home,”

"Where's home for you?" Harry asked.

[onlyajones]

"I'm from South West England," Jo told him and then added, "it's 1952 for me back home,"

"Oh, that's a change. I thought being from 1996 was strange enough," he admitted.

"It's certainly taken some getting used," Jo said, "most people here seem to be from the future," well for Jo it didn't take much to be considered from the future for her.

"Technically I think we're the time travelers," Harry pointed out.

Not his first time there, technically!

To the surprise of no one Jo didn’t have a good grasp of time travel. “I didn’t think of it like that,” Jo tilted her head, “my home is quite ordinary, time travel only exists in fiction there,” at least that’s what Jo had picked up the few times she had paid attention in English class.

Nell was happy to see her Little Sister as she'd been meaning to check in with her. "Hi, there," she said with a smile. "How are things going, Jo?"

“Hi Nell,” Jo smiled, “things are going pretty good thanks, I think I’m mostly settled in now. How are you?”

"I'm good," Nell said. "Just trying to get used to all of my classes."

Some of which were a little unexpected.

"But I wanted to make sure you were doing well, you know, outside of class where we could talk, and see how you were doing with all the craziness here."

She nodded, "It's still taking some getting used to, it's very different from home." she admitted, "but I think I'm starting to get the hang of things here, that day when we all thought we were 16 was weird though," and Jo hadn't liked how quickly she had reverted back to her old boastful self.

"Sometimes I think there's more days like that than not," Nell said with a smile. "Sometimes all the water is hot chocolate or your clothes all disappear or you wake up and you're three. Still and all, I like it here."

"I definitely prefer it here to my old school," Jo said with a grin, "I suppose I'll have to wait and see what else will happen, it's certainly never a dull moment here,"

"That's for sure!" Nell said. "Crazy or unexplainable, sure, but never boring. I have to say, though that I'm glad I've never gotten bit by one of those gremlins. That might be a little much."
