Caritas; Wednesday [09/22].

Summer was distracted by her phone again this week, although not exactly in the same way she had been last week. Instead of having to deal with an influx of incoming messages she'd rather not deal with, she was mostly hoping to get a response to just one message...and was still not getting it. Which was fine, she wasn't really expecting a response right away, she knew she was probably, like, supes busy right now, but she couldn't help obsessively checking it, hoping to see a new message from a mostly unfamiliar number, although every time she checked, and there wasn't a message there, she wondered if maybe no news was good news, because what was she going to do if she actually said no?

Let's be real: Summer would probably still go anyway, but it would be kind of nice if she could have her mother (or her mother's clone's, it didn't really matter) blessing on the whole thing.

But she was here, it was Wednesday, she had a job to do, so she was going to do her best to ignore the phone and pay attention to the bar and all her regulars, and who knows? Maybe they could make her feel like going through all her usual Fandom motions suddenly felt kind of empty and contrite all of a sudden. Maybe she might even be able to forget about the phone for a little while...

...doubt it. But maybe!

Or just sing because it's fun! And the zombies need something somethng to play other than that Earth, Wind and Fire song because they apparently are a little confused about the date.

Come distract Summer and make her do her job, or mod Tino and make him do his job!

Which has lately been a breeding ground for chocobros doing shots, but usually it's pretty open on a Wednesday!

There's darts back here!

And possibly some questionable projects that Tino is failing to keep in his apartment, but Summer is not asking questions there!

Definitely expect some work related slowness today, UGH, being a functional member of society suuuuuuuucks.

It turned out that leaving the filing of mission reports til the last minute was not a good thing and so Goose had spent most of the day aside from class finishing the last of them.

So he was definitely in need of a drink (or several) when he came into the bar that evening, so possibly offering a slight distraction there at least?

“Good Evening, Summer,” he said, as he took a seat at the bar.

Well, talking to the space ranger might not exactly be the distraction Summer needed right now, all things considered, but you know what? She was going to take it.

"Hey, there, Goose," she said, greeting him with a smile. "What can we get for you tonight?"

Goose looked at the specials board for a moment and then decided, “I’ll try one of the mini pumpkins please,” he was at least starting to get more adventurous with trying the jello shots.

Maybe Stark could be a distraction if Summer felt a need to ask questions about where he'd been last week or why or anything like that. Maybe. That wasn't why he was here, of course, he was here because it was Wednesday and being here was part of his routine now.

"Could I have one of the cake ones?" he asked. He wasn't going anywhere near the eggs, thank you. "Hello, Summer."

Aww, and here Summer thought maybe those eggs would be his very first stop!

She smiled, unsurprised, at what Stark did end ip ordering, though, setting one dutifully down in front of him.

"Hey, Stark," she said. "How've you been?"

She had a vague idea, going off of what she'd caught here and there on radio, but it'd be interesting to hear what he had to say himself.

Just wait until he agreed to start trying the gross ones!

"One mini pumpkin," Summer declared, "coming up!"

And when it was there in front of him, she then asked, "How've you been?"

Those eggs were an abomination and Summer knew it!

"Last week was long," Stark said. "And tiring. It's better now. I'm better now. Much better." Better and smiling in a slightly dopey way for just a moment.

"And you?"

Honestly he’s not picky with food or drinks, he'd probably see how many he could try.

“Not too bad,” Goose said as he accepted the shot, “did the dates thing on Saturday, had to finish off some mission reports from home today, so not a whole lot has been happening, how about you?” unfortunately he couldn’t read the narrative so was unaware that was probably not the best question to ask.

Those eggs were incredibly tame and displayed a remarkable amount of restraint, don't even!

But how could Summer not have a pleased smile in response to that slightly dopey one she'd clocked on Stark's face, before trying to decide if she should answer his question honestly or just try to brush it aside like usual.

Really, though, maybe what she needed right now was some perspective. So her smile tampered down a little softly and she sighed a little before answering.

"Well," she started, "I had Barry over for dinner with my family on Friday, and we actually managed to get through the entire meal before my mom's clone...or possibly my actual mom, it doesn't really matter...showed up with the resurgance of the Galactic Federation we thought we destroyed back when I was still in high school hot on her trail and trying to destroy the planet, so that was a whole thing..."

Then she figured she'd just let that hang there so she could gauge Stark's reaction and use that to determine what to do with it next.

"Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about 3DM," because of course she called it by its abbreviation, "happening this weekend, and I was there witnessing it," and secretly signing people up, shhhhh. She shook her head, blinking a little, because that really did sort of highlight the state of her brain.

But with Goose still being a newer addition to the Wednesday regular squad, he was definitely getting spared the info dump that was Summer's current personal issues, and instead, she was firmly in the denying and avoiding answering questions directly stage with that one, instead, focusing entirely on him as a grin slipped onto her face.

"So?" she asked. "Any hot connections? Gotta admit, even if they were disasters, that sounds way more interesting than asking about your mission reports."

Which, considering they had talked about pickle people (or lack thereof) last time, that was honestly not true, but mission reports were more likely to make her itch for the call of infinity that was currently ringing in her brain.

“It wasn’t a bad evening,” he told her, “met some people I already knew and one was a teacher I had when I was student here, which was a bit weird,” he said. “I sometimes forget about how much time has passed for Fandom when I left originally,”

"All my time away has been in real time," said Summer, who now sort of wondered if that was going to hod true now that she was looking at another stint away. Yeah, she definitely wasn't relishing the new realization that she may leave for, like, a month, and come back and have it be, like six years instead, oooof. "How long was it for you again? I can't even imagine..."

There was a small beat before she had to ask: "Who was the teacher?"

“I originally left after graduation last year,” he explained, “which was still 2014 for me so it’s been about seven years that have passed in the months I’ve been back home,” he added, “and the teacher was Dr. Lecter, I took his Food Philosophy class … well that would been around eight years ago now I think, going by Fandom time,” these time differences were still confusing to him.

"I had a feeling it was going to be Dr. Lecter," Summer admitted, marvelling a little at her ability to call it and shaking her head a little. "Amazing. I'm now convinced he's been teaching at this school since the dawn of time, honestly..."

She was also trying to do a little bit of screwy timeline math in her head, was generally failing, and decided to just ask, "I think you may have just missed him, but you didn't happen to go here when my boyfriend did, did you? Barry Ween? You know him from school at all?"

Just because the eggs were tame in comparison to some other creations didn't mean they weren't awful!

"That sounds exhausting as well. Are you alright?" Summer looked like she was but that didn't mean anything.

"I didn't have to deal with any clones. Or anyone trying to destroy any worlds."

"Yeah, no, I'm fine," Summer assured him, although she'd thought about just casually skipping over that question. But it was Stark, and he was just easier to talk to about things like this. "I, personally, managed to get through the whole thing pretty unscathed this time. All I really did was be invisible half the time, snap some bitch's leg in two, and throw Barry's pants in a laser..."

But now her attention was very specifically shifting to him.

"And you? Heard you and Faye got back from space right around the time I was taking Jon up into it. How'd that all go?"

“I don’t think so…” Goose said as he thought about it, “I didn’t stay for the summer session but then I also wasn’t really a sociable student either,” to the absolute surprise of no one, these past few weeks were probably the most social he had been in a while.

Summer nodded a little. "He went through a whole weird time thing when he came back, too," she said. "I was half-starting to wonder if it was just a thing with a certain era, but, maybe not. Either way! Good to have you back, no matter how the time works out, and that you're maybe being at least a little more sociable now!"

When you had a Jedi for a BFF, that means sometimes she'd bypass the usual look at the specials board and ask, "How're you doing?"

Not prying or anything.

And another thing about a Jedi BFF is that she didn't exactly spend a whole lot of time besting around the bush there, either, huh?

Which was why the look Rey was getting was a bit wry as she claimed, "I'm fine," in defiance of the vibe she was probably putting out right now, but, considering who this was, who could probably relate to at least some of this, she then eyed her speculative and followed up with, "Why do you ask?"
