Jon had been in his office at the school the last two days, but nobody had showed up, and he did have another job as well, so today he was in his flat, with the sign on the door reluctantly turned to indicate he was in and available.
He was splitting time between the little balcony off the den and the laundry room, and wondering if whoever actually owned this place would be likely to try violence if he replaced the laundry machines with non-coin-operated ones, because nobody should have to pay to clean their clothes in their own building.
He was either the worst or the best landlord ever; it probably depended on your definition.
