Anakin was on a quest for decent cider donuts, which he blamed entirely on spending a week in Boston.

The people behind the counter told Anakin they'd been sold for hours and so he was contenting himself with a bear claw instead.

It just wasn't the same.

Rey had run late with training, which meant it was kind of funny to run into Anakin here today.

"Something wrong?"

"They ran out of donuts," Anakin said with a small smile to see who it was. "I'll survive. How was your trip?"

"Good. I had a successful mission," Rey grinned, still pretty proud of that. "Hopefully I get to do it more soon."

"What did they have you doing?" Anakin asked. "Do we get to practice in the flight simulator again?"

[thatwaslucky]

"I'll never say no to that," Rey said immediately. "We had to break one of the New Republic's diplomats out of jail."

[sith_happened]

"Oooh, fun!"

Was that the correct response? Yes, if you were Anakin.

[thatwaslucky]

"It was," Rey admitted. "And I didn't realize how long it had been since I've actually been able to use what I'm learning in practice like that."

"Tell me how it went," Anakin said eagerly.

[thatwaslucky]

"I think it was pretty standard for these things," Rey said, unsure. "It was me, Finn and Poe, flying the Falcon into First Order occupied space, and then BB-8 hooked in to cause a distraction so we could get in. We still had to mostly fight our way in and out, I had to mind trick a guard, but we got our guy out without even too much of a firefight."

Anakin grinned. "You deserve a bear claw."

"That earns a bear claw?" she asked, amused.

[sith_happened]

"You get two if there was a firefight," Anakin said airily.

[thatwaslucky]

"What constitutes a firefight? In the ship, or on the ground?"

"On the ground," Anakin decided arbitrarily.

[thatwaslucky]

"There was some shooting but I don't know if it was full firefight or not," she said. "I should spend more time at the range, too."

Anakin nodded. "My Master always said the blaster was uncivilized," he said with a small smile. "He vastly preferred the lightsaber."

[thatwaslucky]

"I do too, but sometimes a blaster works better for a situation," she said. "I can go with uncivilized."

Anakin grinned. "Me too, but I save my shooting for flying."

[thatwaslucky]

"I've only ever done that for real once," Rey admitted, finally sitting. Hopefully he didn't mind. "That was fun, though."

[sith_happened]

"It was my favorite," Anakin said, grinning. "I lost track of how many missions I went on."

"That would feel to me like it's too much," Rey admitted, from where she could count on two hands the number of times she'd been out.

[sith_happened]

"Well, it was a war," Anakin said, "Our tempo was high and the Jedi were almost continuously on the front lines."

Looking back, he could see Palpatine's hand in that.

"I think I'm just sorry that much needed to be done," Rey said thoughtfully.

[sith_happened]

"Well, someone was profiting off of the chaos," Anakin said wryly, "and it was in their interest to have it drag out."

[thatwaslucky]

"Yeah," she said with a sigh. "At least you got to have fun while it was happening."
