It was the last shift before Halloween, so Wanda was making sure everything was perfect for the holiday. She had started putting up decorations in July so she had to make sure those suckers were still hanging in there.

All while eating candy because she had bought way too much for the amount of kids that lived on this island.

Of course being this decked out for Halloween meant that you might get Kitty bringing Lexi in to look at decorations, only to have a very demanding almost-three-year-old immediately say, "Where are the costumes!"

Wanda laughed at the demanding toddler. It was easy to find it cute when you didn't have to do the parenting bit. "You haven't picked a costume yet? Halloween is in less than a week!"

"I want a new one," Lexi explained.

"She was supposed to be a fairy," Kitty said. "I had no idea until right this second that apparently that's not good enough."

"Fairies are cool!" Wanda said. "They have wings, and are covered in glitter, what's not to like about that?"

"They're not dinosaurs," Lexi replied.

While Kitty, who'd watched her kid turn into her costume last year, looked Concerned.

[scarlet_chaos]

"Ah. Well that isn't the same thing as a fairy, for sure," she said. "I'm not sure if we've got dinosaur stuff here, honey. This is more of a...witchy store."

[throughaphase]

"I didn't even think you'd have costumes," Kitty told her. "She said she wanted to see the decorations."

"Now those we do have," Wanda said. "To a disturbing degree."

[throughaphase]

"You guys did go all out," Kitty said, impressed.

[scarlet_chaos]

"It helps I had a mysterious benefactor who has been sending me stuff since the summer," she said. "I'm kind of hoping I get a winter holiday one too, because that was very convenient."

"I'm kind of surprised they didn't start sending the Christmas stuff in already," Kitty admitted. "It seems like that holiday's encroaching these days."

And yet Caritas had still been narratively jinxed into Thanksgiving stupidity.

[scarlet_chaos]

"Oh, Christmas is limited to December here," Wanda assured her. "Halloween, however, has been happening since the summer. And the big skeleton is staying."

[throughaphase]

Kitty's response was immediate. "Tell me he'll have a Santa hat."

[scarlet_chaos]

"Oh of course," Wanda said. "That's been here for a couple weeks now. Eliot and I are stuck on what to do for him on Thanksgiving. He's vetoing a turkey hat and all the other options I'm seeing on the internet are culturally insensitive."

[throughaphase]

"But a skeleton in a turkey hat would be amazing," said Kitty, who had made so many bad fashion choices as a youth. "Do pilgrim hats count as insensitive?"

On one hand, not gross appropriation. On the other hand, they weren't great.

[scarlet_chaos]

"Might be toeing the line," Wanda said. "Also feels weird doing that as a witch. Weren't they the ones that burned them in Salem?"

Her American history was lacking. Also her history on witches, for that matter.

[throughaphase]

"Huh," Kitty said, putting those two things together for the first time. "The timing would work out on that. Maybe he can just have a turkey leg."

[scarlet_chaos]

"That wouldn't be a bad idea," she said. "It'd be something at least. He can't just be out there naked."

"...well he is now, but that fits for spooky season."

[throughaphase]

"He should be a dinosaur!" Guess who that was.

"That's an option, sure," Kitty said. "Don't know how that'd work but okay."

[scarlet_chaos]

"I think you might end up shopping for a dinosaur costume before Sunday." Could mix them both together to be a fairy dinosaur.
