JGoB, Thursday afternoon

Much of the island was fully decked out for Halloween. This included the bakery which was full of fake spiderwebs, pumpkins, and spooky desserts. Thankfully, unlike at Caritas, none of the decorations in here were prone to making noises at unsuspecting patrons. Stark was grateful for that once he arrived and walked up to the counter to see what was available today.

The jack-o-lantern cookies looked good, as did the spider cookies, the candy corn cookies, the vampire cookies and the mummy cookies. The monster bark had interesting colors. There was also still a truly impressive variety of pumpkin-based desserts to choose from.

Stark ended up with a box of cookies, some meringue bones, and 2 cream puffs that looked like jack-o-lanterns.

He sat down at an empty table with his treats and a coffee and took an experimental nibble of one of the meringue bones.

Jo decided to try something different today and the discussion she’d had in class about soul cookies on Tuesday had actually made her feel like cookies and since classes were over for the week she decided to see what was available at the bakery. She looked a little uncertain as she stepped inside and saw all the fake spiderwebs everywhere but she tried not to focus too much on them as she made her way to the counter.

“Good afternoon Stark,” she said as she spotted him when she made her way over to the counter, “these do look good,” she remarked as she stared at the different treats that were available.

"I don't think I've ever had anything from here that wasn't good," Stark offered. "Even when some of them looked odd. Hello, Jo."

"This is actually the first time I've been in here," she admitted, which surprised her because she had been at Fandom for nearly two months now, she debated for a bit before she settled on the jack-o-lantern, spider and mummy cookies. "I am looking forward to trying these," she said.

"Really? I'm in here... often." A bit of an understatement, that. Stark was quite possibly in here more often than anyone besides the employees.

"I hope you'll enjoy them."

"Thank you," she smiled, "I'm sure I will ..." she paused, "I tend to be over at the Perk mostly, I've found I do quite enjoy their hot cocoa but I thought I'd try something different today,"

"I go there as well but usually for coffee." Excessively sugary coffee.

"The cocoa is good? I don't remember if I've had it from there but chocolate is always good."

“The cocoa is quite excellent,” Jo told him with a smile, “I’ve never actually had coffee before though,” sorry Stark, it was yet another thing she hadn’t tried.

"It was all new to me when I first came here," Stark said. "The coffee, the chocolate, everything in here. I've liked almost all of it. The coffee I like better when it's sweet."

Extremely sweet.

"I'll have to try some next time," Jo said, "I've been enjoying trying different things here,"

"This," Stark said, nodding in a way meant to encompass the whole bakery, "is my favorite shop here. In part because there are so many new things to try all the time. Is the cocoa your favorite thing you've found here?"

"I think so," Jo considered, "I do also quite like Chinese food even though every time I've ordered it a lot more dishes have arrived," she paused, "I also like studying and writing home at the Perk, I find it quite enjoyable," Jo had never thought she would say enjoyable and studying in the same sentence before but her literature class on Tuesday had highlighted that she needed to do a lot more studying.

"The extra food does seem to happen often here. I remember that." Not that often to Stark these days but it was something of a constant in the dorms.

"When you write home do you tell them everything about here? Or only believable bits?"

“Well the only one I have told about Fandom is my friend Deirdre but I think the only thing she finds surprising is that I’m at Co-Educational school,,” Jo told him, “I haven’t told my family everything about Fandom because I think my dad would want to visit and … he can be a bit much,” that was putting it politely.
