As predicted there had been a ton of candy leftover from Halloween. Buck was taking it upon himself to fish out all the Skittles and eat them. There might be rainbow colored vomit in his future, but right now he so did not care.

"Tell me you didn't eat all the reeses," Travis said, coming through with Probie on their way out for a walk.

"They're all yours," Buck said around a mouthful of Skittles. It was possible he had eaten so many his lips were starting to turn purple.

It really was a bit like having an overgrown 12 year old around. Travis smirked faintly.

"Thanks. Am I going to find you passed out later from your sugar high?"

"I'll probably make it back to my apartment before that happens, don't worry," Buck assured him.

"Well good," Travis said. "Because I might just have to spray you down if I find you sleeping on the job."

That . . . did come out quite like he thought it would. Crap.

The great thing about Buck was that he was ready to assume almost everything said to him was meant as teasing. "Now that wouldn't be very safe, would it?"

"Neither would a firefighter passing out on the job . . . be."

Travis was just layering on the awkward now. If his mother could see his terrible way with words now.

"So . . . another slow one?"

Buck laughed at the question. "If there were an emergency here I'd be calling you so you don't miss out on the once in a lifetime experience."

"That is very much appreciated," Travis said. "And now I'm very sad that we're so excited for emergencies to happen."

"Yeah at the 118 it was a jinx to say the word 'quiet' during a shift," Buck said. "Now I'm ready to shout it."

"Pretty sure that's a thing at any station. Except this one. I've been a little tempted to turn arsonist just to have something to do."

"Oh they'll for sure be looking at us first for arson," Buck said. "It happens on TV all the time where the twist is supposed to be that the arsonist is a fireman."

"And this town definitely likes its media cliches," Travis said with a sigh. "Man, with all the superheroes around here, you'd think there'd be at least one fire themed villain or something. Isn't that how it always works in the comics?"

Travis hadn't read comics in years.

"Maybe there was, and they already got rid of him," Buck said. Then amended, "Or her."

"Or them," Travis said, nodding. "If you're wondering what they do with their time around here, most of them I guess have part time gigs they work in between giant sinkholes and other catastrophies."

"Makes sense," Buck said with a nod. "It'd be kind of waste of super cool powers if you're just sitting around here waiting for action."

"As opposed to . . . what we do all day."

Travis was pretty sure this should just be a volunteer firehouse.
