The Photo Hut; Monday [11/08].
When a certain annoying hipster inclined toward vinyl at another shop on the island came into the Photo Hut that day, Prompto was eager to help, but very quickly discovered that, apparently, his supposed expertise in photography was considerably lacking, as he was pretty sure he had never heard of what the guy was asking about.
"I'm sorry... you said daguerreotype?"
The hipster dude nodded and asked again if they had anything in stock for it, and Prompto just sort of scrunched his eyebrows and shook his head.
"Man," he said, "I don't even know what that is, much less if we have stuff for it, but, uhh, I can definitely get your information and ask the boss lady about it when I get a chance, and we can get back to you?"
Which was a very reasonable next step, he felt, but, apparently, the customer felt otherwise, if Prompto was going to go off of the disbelieving scoff and the insufferable roll of his eyes that he got in response, followed by a lofty look at Prompto up and down that was not doing his already wavering sense of self-confidence any good, as the hipster proceeded to inform Prompto that he wasn't at all surprised that he'd never heard of it, and he supposed that would do, but they'd better be quick about it, or else he might just take his business elsewhere, to somewhere that had more of an appreciation for the history of the art.
"What the fuck, dude?" asked Prompto, to the then-empty shop, as the hipster had sauntered out after leaving his info, and Prompto then immediately took to his phone to look it up.
And then it was his turn to roll his eyes, because, wow, dude, seriously? Woo-ooo-oooow.
The Photo Hut is open!

She got downstairs and saw there was some one new and so was watching Prompto with great interest and crept closer to see what he was doing.
no subject
Blinked a little at the initial surprise of there suddenly being a cat there, but he'd seen more than enough pictures recently to feel pretty confident he knew who this was, and his face immediately broke out into a grin.
"Heeeey, there, pretty kitty!" he gushed, hopping over the counter so that he could be in a better spot to crouch down to the cat's level and offer out one of his hands as a greeting. "Did you come in to say hi? Need a camera upgrade? Maybe some film, buddy, huh?"
His fingers waggled a little with the little kissy noises he made to help convince the cat closer, as he suddenly wished he'd thought to bring something like treats, but now he was definitely going to be prepared for next time!
no subject
So she was making her way closer to Prompto to see and she blinked up at him.
no subject
Did you want to reduce him to just a big goopy puddle from cute, Rain? Because you were working your way towards making him just a big goopy puddle from cute right now.
"It's nice to finally meet you, Rain!" he informed her, hand still out and patient. "My name's Prompto, and I'm a huuuuuge fan! I like all your photos on Instagram, this is such an honor!"
He grinned softly at the cat, before gently, carefully lifting his hand and moving it closer to her head.
"Do you like ear scritches?" he asked. "I'm pretty good at ear scritches, you know."
no subject
Ooh Rain did like scritches, she knew what those meant and she meowed and then purred.
Yes please give her all the ear scritches.
no subject
"Awwww, yeah," he crooned as he bestowed upon her a most expert cat scratching technique. "That's the good stuff. I knew you'd be a cat of refined tastes!"
no subject
She purred quite contently as she relished in all the petting, she should have broken out sooner but she’d had to figure out that door first. It had taken a while for her to do that.
She meowed and purred and was currently living her best life here.
no subject
"I should remember to bring treats next week," he said, after a while, because he could literally do this all day, a comment made just as much to Rain as it was to him, and then his voice went all squishy and mushy as he emphasized it with additional gushing. "Yes, I will! 'Cuz good kitties get good treats, and you're the best kitty, Rain, yes you are! Awww, so pretty, kitty, good girl!"
no subject
She kept purring and was very content to stay there getting all the pets and ear scritches.
You were currently her new favourite person Prompto. She meowed in approval.
no subject
"Are you a pick-up cat, Rain?" Prompto then wondered, and dared to upset this balance by going to pick her up and test whether she'd object to some kitty snuggles added to this mix. "Want up?"
no subject
no subject
It was a good thing Prompto had already been crouched close to the floor when Rain let him pick her up, or else his knees would have probably melted under the cute. "Aww, little baby," he gushed, "your fur is so nice and soft!"
And then he was bolstered with this most excellent discovery that Rain was a cat that didn't mind being picked up, and so he straightened and stood up, fingers still shifting and scritching in her fur as he did. "Come on," he said, moving back toward the counter, "let's at least go over here so it can at least look like we're being productive."
Showering Rain with affection right now certainly was productive in Prompto's book right now, but he could see why others might think a bit differently.

So she headed downstairs and saw Prompto holding Rain and immediately went back upstairs to get her camera.
“I see Rain decided to introduce herself,” she said with a smile when she got back downstairs.
Rain meanwhile was being quite content being held and petted and merely purred in response.
no subject
Okay, that was bad, but before mortification could completely set in, he looked back at Liz with his chin lifted defiantly as he claimed, "I'm stealing you cat, Liz. It's decided. She's my cat now."
He scritched behind Rain's ears for extra insurance as he asked her, "Right, Rain?"
no subject
Rain was completely oblivious to all of this and she just kept purring, as long as she got pets and snacks, she wasn’t complaining about who her owner was.
Liz used that moment to take a photo of Prompto and Rain with her camera, trying to hide her laughter as she did.
“Betrayed by my own cat,” Liz said with a heavy mock sigh, “how could you Rain?”
no subject
And, to prove it, he treated her a few more of exactly that.
It was even a little difficult to be too sheepish about the claims, too, what with the proof right there in the purring.
no subject
Rain was really living her best life here, she was getting all the scritches today and yes she was still purring, very content to be held by Prompto and was showing no signs of moving any time soon.
“No, I guess you really can’t,” Liz said with a fond smile as she watched them, “she does have good taste,”
Wait did she actually say that out loud?
Oh look the blushing had returned.
no subject
"Nah," he said, his attention more into petting Rain now for the distraction of it, "she's just in it for the scritches...
"Oh, and, hey," he added, as if reminding himself of what he was there for in the first place and shift the focus away from himself, "some guy came earlier asking for really old-timey photo stuff? Called dagurruetypes? I didn't know what he was talking about, but I said I'd take his info and ask you about it..."
no subject
“Daguerreotypes?” Liz repeated, tilting her head as she tried to remember her photography history, “you don’t hear that term very often these days,”
There was a pause as she glanced around the store and what cameras she did have, she hadn’t come across any the last time she did inventory, “I don’t think I have anything like that in stock but I could probably order it in … “ she mused.
no subject
"Info's here on the counter, either way."
So he was helping! And not just usurping her cat.
Not that she seemed to mind, but it was reassuring, to cover his bases and everything.
no subject
“Oh,” Liz nodded in understanding, “well I’ll have a look to be on the safe side and who knows there might be a bigger market for them in the future?” she had been surprised to find that polaroids had made a comeback so honestly she wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happened here.
She hesitated and then, “um … I just wanted to thank you again for last week .. .I did really have nice time,”
no subject
Maybe a subtle cat nuzzle would work to downplay the red on his cheeks and the faint smild he really couldn't keep down even if he tried.
"Me, too," he said. "I mean, so did I. I mean...it was nice. You don't...I should be thanking you!"
Even if he had gotten stuck with pea soup.
Worth it.
no subject
Rain was unaware that she was being used as a distraction because it meant that she kept getting all the attention and she wasn’t going to complain about getting nuzzles.
“It was nice,” Liz agreed with a warm smile and it had only gotten awkward a couple of times, which all things considered was actually pretty impressive and then she tilted her head in confusion, “thanking me for what?” and yes she was still blushing.
Liz was still rather clueless about how all of this was supposed to go. Sorry Prompto.
no subject
"You...you know," he said, eyes looking pretty much anyway except her her, as he emphasized it because he knew she knew because she'd said it herself! "For such a really good time. I, uh..."
Words? What were they? How did they work?
"I really like hanging out with you."
Uuuuggghhh. He should seriously just hand Rain right back to Liz, before he managed to somehow get his epic levels of lamefail all over the poor cat!
...but she was just so soft and full of puuuurrrrssss....!
no subject
Liz was pretty sure if she went any redder she would actually be on fire and that would be really bad and not how she’d want to explain to Prompto about her powers so she took a few deep breaths there to try and steady herself from embarrassment.
“I … I …” she stopped and started because funnily enough Liz was also having trouble with words right then, “I … reallylikehangingoutwithyoutoo …” she blinked, took a deep and tried again.
“I really like hanging out with you too,” she managed to get out more clearer this time.
Meanwhile Rain was just purring away and completely agreeing with Prompto’s narrative because yes was she very soft and still full of purrs and showing no sign of stopping any time soon.
no subject
"Well, thank god for that!" he declared. "Because this could sure get real awkward real fast if you didn't!"
no subject
Liz managed to let out a nervous laugh after all that and her smile widened at Prompto’s exclamation.
“Yes, I .. I suppose it .. it would have been,” she managed to get out after stumbling only a couple of times.
“So…” what she was supposed to say now? This was all so new to her and she rubbed the back of her neck as she tried to think of something other than awkwardly standing there and blushing but failing rather miserably. “Uh…”
no subject
Even if it meant tilting even further into the comfort of just continuing to joke around.
"That also means you'll have no problem coming go visit me and Rain when I do steal her, too. Perfect."
no subject
Sorry Prompto Liz was just incredibly awkward in general and not just because of the whole ‘I can lose control and kill everyone with my powers’ kind of thing … which oh she was definitely going to have to tell him .. but not now, not while they were ..
She blinked and stared at him as if she forgotten that he was still holding Rain, she shook her head as she laughed again, “I’ve lost this haven’t I?” she sighed and shook her head, “and after everything I’ve done for you Rain” she tried to remain serious but failed and grinned at them.
Rain just purred in response as if to say it was nothing personal.
no subject
But then his attention went back to Liz, his grin crooked and playful, lifting one hand as if to cover Rain's ears and he stage-whispered, "Don't worry about it. It won't last long, anyway. My roommate's cat wouldn't stand for it, she'll be back before you know it."
no subject
Liz grinned, “which is a shame, she gets on really well with other cats,” funnily enough that’s what happened when your former owner had twenty of them, you got used to other cats pretty quickly, “she’d love having a cat playdate,” she smiled and you know it would also be an additional excuse for Liz to visit Prompto as well aside from Mondays.
no subject
If he could figure out what to do with the fact that he shared that place with a literal small army, anyway. But it might be kind of nice, having Liz (and Rain! Obviously! They were doing this for the cats!) over..
no subject
“Well if your roommate wouldn’t mind, I’m sure we could arrange a playdate for them and see how it went,” Liz smiled, “Rain hasn’t gotten to meet any other cats since we came to Fandom and she’s used to being around them,”
Yes, it was totally for the benefit of the cats and not the fact that they would also get to spend more time with each other. It wasn’t for selfish reasons at all.
no subject
And shared a bed with two!
It was a...very special sort of arrangement.
"But, yeah, I can run it down the pipeline, see if they'd be cool with it...What do you think, Rain?" He shifted his attention down toward the cat still in his arms and making him glad that a) she was not a really big cat and b) he rarely skipped arm day. "Wanna make a new friend sometime this weekend?"
no subject
Meanwhile Rain gave a contented purr in response, she was always happy to make new friends, especially if it was a new cat friend as well, as much as she liked her new home she did miss the other cats back at her old place.
no subject
But at this moment? The plan was falling into place, and he couldn't help grinning at how easily it had worked out, which was a nice thing to focus on for now, because he was sure he was about to get at least a little flack from everyone (well, maybe not Seivarden...) when he brought it up.
Whatever. Worth it. He didn't see any of them bringing people over, so there.
"It's a plan, then," he said, scritching the back of Rain's ears again, and he laughed. "Roommate approval pending, anyway."
