Luke's Diner, Saturday

Miguel had woken up in the weird low-tech place again. He sighed, tried for food, and threw up his hands at the ancient equipment. Maybe Xina would know, but he had no clue. So he had stomped off into town, and eventually he found the diner.

The adults there were weird, but at least they gave him food. They also asked him to write the specials board, and what the heck was he supposed to put?

Today's Specials:
Eggs
Waffles
Coffee

Kids eat free!

He shrugged and went back to eating.

Luke's was open!

Rosa had been conditioned to just nope the fuck right out of a situation whenever she woke up and there was a child in the apartment, but she swung by the diner later to follow up on a theory, and just quirked a brow at the kid that she was....fairly sure was the kid ffrom this morning.

"God, this is weird when it skips you over," she murmured to herself, shaking her head and honestly wondering if she had some sort of obligation to do something in this case or not.

Had you ever been side-eyed by a child, Rosa? Because you were getting side-eyed.

"You had me in your house," Miguel accused. "You're a rotten kidnapper if I just walked out."

Nope. No obligation. Absolutely none at all.

Well! That was easy.

"Good thing I'm not trying to kidnap you, then."

"So you just randomly pick up kids in the middle of the night?" Miguel rolled his eyes. "Are you a recruiter? You should know I'm already going to an Alchemax school. Full scholarship."

"Oh, my bad," said Rosa. "I definitely wouldn't have bothered if I'd known you were such a nerd."

Rosa.

Rosa.

What? She wasn't about to be outsassed by her dorky boyfriend's dumb kid self.

"What," Miguel scoffed, "your corp only wants the dumb kids? No wonder the indies are dying."

"My corp," said Rosa, "doesn't want any kids. You were in my apartment by some kind of freak accident, kid, don't flatter yourself."

"Yeah, right." He wasn't buying it. People didn't just end up places by accident; there was always something behind it. "Look, get me back to school by Monday, I don't care. My work's already done, and at least I won't have to look at Kron's stupid face for a couple days."

"Yeah, sure," Rosa shrugged a shoulder. "Back to school by Monday. Got it."

Man, she hoped this didn't wind up being one of those weird ones that lasted randomly until Tuesday or something.

Of course, if that was the case, she could also just get on her bike and leave. What was he going to do about it anyway?

Tease her mercilessly once he was back to himself? Probably that.

Meanwhile, Miguel just shrugged and commenced ignoring her. A lot.

After ending up in the pond during his hunt for minnows earlier Dwight had managed to find his way back to the place he had woken up in. After a quick rinse and changing into the conveniently kid-sized clothes he found in the closet he had headed back out to find something to eat.

Wandering into the diner he glanced at the sign and climbed up on one of the stools and ordered the waffles, not one pass up on free food if people were going to just be giving it away.

Miguel watched the other kid a little warily, but he didn't seem to be acting like a bully, so maybe he was okay. "The blueberry stuff is good on them," he offered.

"Thanks" Dwight said as he grabbed the small bottle and started pouring a healthy amount over the stack of waffles that had just come out. "I'm Dwight by the way" he said, offering a friendly smirk.

"Miguel," he answered. "Are you from here?"

"This place? No... but..." Dwight mused for a moment. "It feels a bit familiar in a way... What about you? Where you from?"

[what_the_shock]

"Nueva York." Miguel shrugged. "Though mostly school these days. This place is weird, right?"

[alwaysonguard]

"It's different... not sure I'd call it weird." Dwight looked at Miguel for a moment. "What makes you think it's so weird here?"

"It's all..." Miguel waved his hands around, "old!"

[alwaysonguard]

"Looks about normal to me" Dwight said with a shrug. "I mean old would be if they still had pay phones and corded phones. But I've seen lots of people already with cell phones and laptops around."

[what_the_shock]

"Laptops?" Miguel laughed. "That's old! There's no holo-ads or hookups or anything! And the streets are stones!"

"Course there's none of that stuff" Dwight scoffed as he shook his head. "None of that stuff is really real! And what ELSE would the streets be made of? Cotton candy?"

"Of course it's real," Miguel scoffed. "And roads should be made of plascrete! Stones are stupid and uneven. Even small cities have real roads."

[alwaysonguard]

"Plascrete isn't a real thing. And neither are holo decks or whatever you are yammering about. That is all just science fiction It's all pretend!"

"You're dumb," Miguel declared. "What, never lived in a city before?"

[alwaysonguard]

"I am not dumb!" Dwight retorted back. "I am smart enough that living in the city is no where as fun as being outdoors! And I bet you cant even tell a poisonous snake from a harmless snake can you?"

"There are no snakes in the city," Miguel scoffed. "Who cares? Did you get top scores in biochemistry?"

"There could be snakes in the city! And you would get bitten cuz you're an idiot!" Dwight quickly pointed out. "And no, I didn't, but I've placed first in the state in archery several times? And I am going to be an Eagle Scout one day!"
