The Perk - Wednesday Afternoon

It had been an interesting experience being 6 years old and Jo decided she liked the past weekend rather than what had happened on halloween - even though she had been rather mortified at how much the younger Jo had revealed about her family’s wealth. It hadn’t really been bragging but she knew having servants and such wasn’t really a thing in this time so there were now a few people who knew that she came from money.

As was becoming the norm, Jo returned to the Perk after classes were done for the week and got her usual hot cocoa, picking out her favourite table to sit at by the window and watch what was happening around her.

Jon was stopping back in for tea.

Which was to say, he'd learned that Jo tended to be here, and if she was feeling awkward about this weekend, he wanted to help. And also that he needed tea.

He got his cup and nodded to Jo. "Good afternoon."

“Good afternoon Mr. Sims,” she smiled, even if she was a bit embarrassed about their conversation on the weekend, “how are you?”

"I'm well, thank you, Jo." He smiled back and nodded. "And you're still looking rather young for someone my grandmother's age. I apologise for that, by the way. I don't think either of us knew what was going on."

Jo smiled, “oh that’s alright Mr. Sims, it was quite a strange weekend,” she considered, “I don’t think my younger self realised she was nearly 70 years in the future,” she said with an amused grin, “I must admit it was rather weird being that age again,”

"It definitely was," Jon agreed. "Not necessarily bad, but very strange."

“I definitely preferred it to Halloween,” she nodded, “I don’t think my 6 year old self had as much trouble telling people about her home,” she hesitated and paused, “I hope it didn’t sound like I was bragging about my home …it wasn’t my intention at all, um …I’m sorry if that was the case,” you had been 6 at the time Jo.

"It was much better than Halloween, yes," Jon agreed. For much the same reasons, even.

"Don't worry," he assured her, "I didn't take it that way at all. Not even at eight." He shrugged. "You sounded more confused than anything."

“Oh that’s good,” Jo was relieved, “I know my home situation is different to most people even back in my time so I wasn’t sure if I’d misspoke or was rude,” she definitely hadn’t wanted to make the same mistakes she’d made at Malory Towers.

Jon shook his head. "No, not at all. Though I appreciate the concern." He smiled. "For what it's worth, I haven't yet found you to be rude, in class or out of it. I...I think you're doing well."

Jo beamed at that, “I think you’re the first teacher to ever say that to me,” she told him.

Admittedly she hadn’t given the Malory Towers teachers much cause to think otherwise but she still liked hearing that someone did think that she was trying.

"Well, I'm sorry the others didn't, then. I think you've been a very good student."

"Thank you," Jo went rather pink at that, "the other teachers at my old school would definitely have a hard time believing that," she admitted. She was trying to imagine what Miss Grayling would make of her at Fandom now.
