The Perk - Saturday Morning
Liz felt a bit weird going for coffee after her breakdown in front of Prompto the other day but she knew she couldn’t really spend another day at the store and (crying) moping in her apartment so she decided to brave the outside and go for a coffee and hopefully not start crying again.
She was tired and her eyes were still rather red from the crying she had been doing on and off since Thursday but she found a seat by the window and stared out of it as she considered what had happened in the last couple of days.
Had she made a mess of it? She wasn’t sure, Prompto hadn’t run away when she told him the truth because most people didn’t react well to the ‘I killed nearly 40 people with my powers’ situation but at the same time … would he still want to be around her knowing what she’d done, what she could do?
Liz stared down at her coffee, holding the hot mug tightly for comfort as she tried not to think about the possibility that she had screwed up. Then there was still the dilemma over whether or not she wanted to go back home for Thanksgiving and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to do that either.
She closed her eyes, trying to fight back the fresh tears that had already started building and she kept them closed til she was confident she wasn’t about to start breaking down at the Perk, because she definitely didn’t want to deal with that mortification.
She took a deep breath and opened them again and stared out the window as she tried to figure out what she was going to do about Thanksgiving and try not to think about how she may have screwed up with Prompto.

Anyway, once he got his coffee (just the one drink...for now) and was about to just head back out with it, he noticed Liz sitting there and paused. Sure, he was the muscles of this operation, but that didn't mean he didn't have a brain, and even if he didn't, it wouldn't take much of one to put two and two together, what with Prompto being oddly mopey these last few days, and now Liz sitting there looking like she'd maybe been crying for a week straight or something.
Geez, Pipsqueak, how'd you mess this one up?
So Gladio rerouted, moving over to Liz's table with a faint smile and a lift of his free hand. "Hey," he said, then cocked his head curiously, "Liz, right?" His hand fell to his chest. "Gladio. Remember me? I think it was homecoming, you were a bit more, uhh, green, then," he chuckled a little, "I was a bit more...daemonic?"

“It’s …it’s Liz,” she said quietly, glancing up at him and to her horror a sob escaped, “hi Gladio,” she managed to get out, it took all of her resolve to not just lose her composure and start crying all over again.

And if she didn't, then he'd gladly take that excuse to leave her be, and then head immediately back to the apartment. He wouldn't want to upset Liz further, but he'd have absolutely no qualms about wringing (maybe literally) the information out of Prompto.
And, hey, maybe he was wrong, and it was entirely unrelated, but...come on.

"Rough day?" he guessed.

She put them down, “rough few days,” she admitted, “I …I think I screwed up and I don’t think I can fix it,”
no subject
"Mmm." It came out as a deep, thoughtful kind of grunt. Kind of vague, obviously, because he didn't know what was going on with her, and also didn't want to pry. "Been there before. But, hey. I'm sure things'll work out in the end, one way or the other, even if it's not the way you thought it might."
no subject
Yes he had said that he wouldn’t but Liz was feeling pretty miserable about the whole thing and she didn’t think at the moment it would ever be all right.
no subject
Was there...was there another Prompto that he didn't know about on the island? It didn't exactly seem like a common name, but that didn't sound...
"You think...Prompto...would hate you?" he asked, as if to just clarify this point. "Prompto Argentum? Quite possibly one of...the squishiest people I have ever met? What did you do, shoot puppies?"
Boy, was this going to take an awkward turn if she actually did go around shooting puppies.
But it would make sense.

"Look," he said, leaning forward again, as decided that while he prefer it that this wasn't his problem, Prompto was his teammate, and if it affected his performance negatively (and based on their training this morning, it definitely had), then that made it his problem. He lifted his hands almost imploringly. "Whatever it was, obviously, you do feel bad about it, and that can...go a long way. And I've been working with Prompto for a few years now, and believe me, he's not the hateful type." He snorted faintly, with a sighing roll of his eyes. "Almost to a fault. You want me to call him? I can guarantee you, he's not doing anything important right now."
Probably just sprawled out on the floor underneath the cat staring at the ceiling more. A spot he'd probably never have even moved from if Gladio hadn't dragged him out for training earlier.

“Ye…yes,” she finally managed to stammer, “if you’re sure he’s not busy,” there was another sob.
no subject
"Alright," he said, "just give me a sec."
And he walked away, albeit it probably not far enough that Liz wouldn't have heard the conversation that followed, or, at the very least, Gladio's end of it. "Yeah. You busy? ....Good. Come down to the Perk....don't worry about it, just do it....I'll buy you a drink, what do you want? ....No, don't--Don't bring Ignis! Just you....We're doing extra squats on Tuesday if you're not here in ten minutes...Then you'd better get moving!...Yeah, bye."
He ended the call and slipped his phone back into his pocket as he turned to Liz. "He's on his way," he offered, in case she hadn't figured it out, then hitched a thumb toward the counter. "I'm getting his drink."
no subject
What do say you say to someone after you told them you killed nearly 40 people with your powers?
That was of course assuming Prompto would even want to be in the same room as her, he may decide to just turn around and leave when he realised she was there.
She started to sob quietly, holding on to the coffee that she had barely drank anything from.
no subject
...but then Prompto did arrive, not knowing at all what was going on or what to expect, and probably wouldn't have, after a million tries, have guessed this. He blinked at the door when he burst in with the intention of finding Gladio, starting a few steps toward him when he did spot him, and then stopping when he realized who he was with.
"...oh."
Yeah. Yup. Definitely did not see this one coming, and he blinked again before his eyes started bouncing between Gladio and Liz and trying to figure out exactly what was going on.
It didn't help that Gladio stepped toward him, put a heavy hand on his shoulder for a moment, then just sort of shook his head and gave him one of those stern warning looks. Squeezed his shoulder, patted it, threw in a very inappropriate but probably not all that surprising smack on his butt as he passed by, and left him to it.
Prompto was just going to take a moment to regret ever inviting that guy to come join them in teaching on the island for a second before breathing out slowly and continuing toward Liz's table.
"...Hey," he started, shoulders sagging, head down, until he actually saw that she'd been crying and his eyes went wide. "Ohgod, Liz!" He was already kneeling down next to her, reaching for one of the napkins to hold out for her. "What...what did he say to you? You know what, don't listen to that guy, he can seriously be a real jerk sometime, believe me, I should know!"
What the hell, Gladio? Seriously, like, total what the fuck moment right now!
no subject
She tried to calm down enough to try and say that it wasn’t Gladio’s fault but all she could manage to get out was, “I’m so sorry,” and sat there sobbing into the napkin.

Finally she did stop, “I’m sorry,” she said quietly again, “I know I’m the last person you want to see right now,” she couldn’t bring herself to meet Prompto’s gaze to confirm that fear of rejection and stared down at the pile of scrunched up napkins that had formed in front of her.
no subject
And he'd almost followed that up with asking why she would even think that, but, well, that part, at least, he wasn't confused about. But he thought...or at least he'd tried!...to make it clear on Thursday that he wasn't...at least he wasn't planning on going anywhere.
"I just...I just figured you'd....want some space...or something."
And he was still working through a lot of his own thoughts about it, too, but, well, they didn't seem to matter as much, in the long run.
no subject
Liz had considered that possibility …well technically she had confessed to 38 counts of murder and arson after all.
She had half expected to be arrested yesterday in between the crying and moping she had been doing.
no subject
"Liz. I wasn't going to tell...anyone."
Much less the cops.
Especially when it sounded like she already sort of worked with her world's version of the secret kind of cops that would even deal with that sort of thing, and, uhhhh, unless he was getting the story wrong, they kind of already knew?
NFB from here please!
Would they ask her to leave Fandom?
it still didn’t help clarifying her thought process or why she’d think Prompto would do that to her, “I…”
The tears started building again, “I’m sorry,” she said again.
Re: NFB from here please!
Well, they certainly wouldn't be able to complain about not having much to do anymore!
"Liz," Prompto said, moving in to just give her a hug. "I thought you said you went to school here. This place is pretty much crawling with weirdos and secret criminals and dark pasts and who even knows what else. That's part of its charm."
Re: NFB from here please!
"Even when I was at Fandom before, there were only a few people who knew ... or at least knew part of it," she admitted.
Re: NFB from here please!
...to be fair, though, hers was....kind of a tough act to follow.
So when he pulled away from the hug, he took a second to maybe help brush away some of those tears, gave her a soft sort of trembling smile, and look at her with a nervous sort of frankness.
"There's...actually probably something I should tell you, too," he admitted. "I...I was going to anyway, just not...I thought maybe....because of all this...."
He bit his lip a little, chewing on it as he looked around the coffee shot.
"Just...not here. I don't know, maybe we...maybe we could go to your place, or something? To talk. Probably a better place...to...to talk..."
Re: NFB from here please!
"We can do that," she said quietly, "if you would like to,"
Re: NFB from here please!
He was already feeling the knots in his stomach.
"We can also totally wait!" he found himself sputtering. "I mean, whatever you want. You...it's been a hard weekend....for....for both of us. And it's....I mean, yours....it's up to you! But...maybe..." As he stumbled his way through all that, his head dripped with a sigh of resignation. "I mean, I should. It's, uh....it's only fair....right?"
Re: NFB from here please!
Re: NFB from here please!
He stood up from where he'd been kneeling next to her and held out a hand. "Yeah. Let's blow this popsicle stand." He gave a watery sort smile. "You need a refill or anything? Before we go?"
Re: NFB from here please!
[did you want me to put up a separate post for their talk at Liz's place?]
Re: NFB from here please!
"I think," he said, "coffee at your place sounds good."
He still had a whole ass drink he hadn't even touched yet, though.
[[ whichever you prefer! I am about to disappear for a wee bit, though, as a head's up. Yeah! Timing! ]]
Re: NFB from here please!
"Then I can definitely make us coffee," it most likely wouldn't be as good as the Perk's but well she could still make a decent cup of coffee, at least she hoped - she didn't have much practice making it for other people.
[not a problem at all - I'll put the post up in a little bit :)]
