The food holiday was this week but so many holidays in this country revolved around food he couldn't remember which one meant which so to him it was just the turkey holiday. And also apparently cranberries since there seemed to be an abundance of cranberry vodka around. Not his taste, but it was available for other people.

Both he and Tiny were there.

Look how happy Rey was to see him after work.

"Hi," she said as she took her seat, though it was said with a tone that said ugh.

"Hello," Silver said, giving her a smile when he saw her. "How was work?"

It didn't sound like it had gone well.

"So many people broke so many things that I need to fix this week," she said. "It's actually impressive."

It'd also been a nice distraction.

"Being busy is good, right?" he said, going to get her a soda. "And it must mean people have faith in your abilities."

"Busy is very good. But they're just bringing things in because it's a business. I'm sure it's nothing to do with me specifically," Rey told him.

"Does anyone else actually work there?" he asked. "Like, does the gremlin actually do stuff?"

"He does! His hands are just much smaller so he's not as fast," Rey said. "And I'm not sure he's officially on the payroll yet."

"...interesting." Did that mean the gremlin fixed stuff for fun? Very strange. Silver set the soda down in front of her. "Is there any work that will be difficult for you?"

"Oh, I can fix anything," she said. "The hardest part is trying to figure out what some of it is. It's like everyone broke everything they need to cook for Thanksgiving, but to be honest I'm not sure how much of it was needed in the first place."

"Hopefully the internet can help," Silver said. "Surely there's a way you can take a picture of something and ask 'what the hell is this' and someone will answer."

"I've been googling model numbers," Rey said. "Your way sounds much more interesting."

Silver shrugged. "I've spent a lot of time on the internet."

He had a lot of free time on his hands since he worked one day a week.

"Times like this I really appreciate that," she smiled. "Do you think we should be doing anything for the holiday?"

"This is the turkey one, right?" he asked. "Isn't it about Americans like the hot dog one is?"

"I think it's really about food," she said. "There's a hot dog holiday?"

"Yeah, the one with all the fireworks in the summer," Silver said. "In the commercials people are always drinking beer and eating hot dogs."

"That is definitely the fireworks holiday but I love you for prioritizing the food," Rey grinned.

"Well there's so many more choices now," he said. "It's almost overwhelming."

"And so many of them are shoved together at the end of the year," she said. "I think it's all holidays from now until Valentine's Day."

"At least there tends to be interesting deliveries," Silver said. "Got a lot of cranberry stuff coming in. I guess that's a thing."

"How is the cranberry stuff?" Rey wondered.

"I haven't actually tried it. Not much of a vodka person." Or a non-rum in general person. "You can put some in your drink and see how it is?"

"Sure, I can test it," she said. "I trust you to pour more than me."

Rey had not figured out pours. It was bad.

"How about we do just enough to taste?" He reached for one of the many bottle that had arrived and unscrewed the top. He poured about half a shot in. "There. Enough to taste it and you'll still be able to get home without falling over."

"You really think I'm that much of a lightweight?" Rey asked, amused, taking her drink back.

"Yes, I do," he teased.

"I'll have you know it would take at least one and a half of these," she said loftily, sipping the drink. "It's not bad."

"Excuse me for underestimating you," he said lightly. "I'm glad it's not bad, I would have felt terrible if you spit it out everywhere."

"I've never had anything that bad," Rey said. "I even drank that terrible fake Dr. Pepper."

"I've had some pretty bad alcohol," he said. "Though...I don't think I've ever spit anything out either..."

"Did you continue drinking it?" she wondered.

"Usually if I'm willing to drink that sort of rotgut in the first place I must be really desperate," he said with a laugh. "So, yes, likely I kept drinking it."

"I'm so glad your standards are better now." At least she hoped they were? Please?

"I don't know if standards had anything to do with it," he said. "More like you take what you can get at sea. Most of the time water was risky to drink anyway"

"Then I'm glad your access is better. And that you can have actual water for things besides baths," she teased.

My body wants another nap but my desire to have a normal sleep schedule says it's a bad idea.
