Wanda was trying to busy herself by going through inventory. There wasn't actually much to do, but she was doing her best to distract herself from the upcoming holiday. Usually being alone on Thanksgiving was no big deal (she wasn't even American), but she couldn't help but think of how the the holiday would have gone with Vision and the twins.

Probably some sort of sitcom situation where somebody ended up with their head stuck in a turkey. That would have been fun to deal with.

Steve had taken the week off from the team upstate, so he had time to pop his head into Wanda's shop--with apple pie.

Because Steve thought he was hilarious, okay.

"Hi!" he said, grinning.

"Hi," Wanda said, giving him a smile. "...did you bake?"

"No," Steve said, laughing. "Tony and I have learned that baking is not one of our talents. At all. I got this from a place in Brooklyn."

"Oh! Okay, that makes much more sense," Wanda said with a laugh. "I didn't think you were a baker, but it could be a multiverse thing where you're, like, a master chef."

"I can boil water and reheat cans of stuff," Steve said, "and that's about the extent of my skills."

Also: protein shakes. So many protein shakes.

"So you're ordering your Thanksgiving meal then?" she guessed.

"Tony wants to fry one," Steve said, looking rightfully worried. "Outside."

So maybe look for the fireball.

"...you know whenever I read news articles about frying turkeys it's because someone burned their house down." So, you know. Consider yourself warned.

Steve nodded. "He started a smallish fire in class last week, but swears he's got the physics worked out now."

Wanda somehow doubted that was the case. "Well. You have my number if you need someone to do damage control."

Steve laughed. "Are you around for the weekend? You could come over with a fire extinguisher. We'll have plenty of things Tony isn't deep frying."

"Oh, I don't want to intrude," Wanda said with a wave of her hand. "It's not really a holiday I celebrate anyway."

"You wouldn't be intruding," Steve insisted with a small smile. "You're part of the team."

Wanda smiled softly, touched by that sentiment. “If you’re sure. I guess it couldn’t hurt having an extra pair of hands to help fight fires.”

Steve smiled back. "It's not good to be alone this time of year," he insisted quietly, "even if I don't think Thanksgiving is a Sokovian thing."

Wanda nodded. “You’re right. It would have been kind of sad to be here alone.”

"You know me," Steve said, looking painfully earnest. "Can't let that happen."

[scarlet_chaos]

“I’ll try to bring something for back up to eat. Like lasagna or something,” Wanda said. “Just in case the turkey thing ends in disaster.”

"Thank you. I'm torn between thinking it will be the most amazing turkey ever and bracing for a small reanimated turkey army with their own suits of armor," Steve said, laughing. "Tony's brain is a fascinating thing."

Steve was much more indulgent with Tony's flights of engineering than Wanda might be used to.

"I mean, I'm fine with either option." Wanda liked to think she could hold her own against some reanimated turkeys.

"You'll have a story to tell either way it goes," Steve agreed, laughing.
