The Devil’s Nest, Tuesday Night

It was another easy, sleepy Tuesday night. Lucifer played a few 40s classics at the piano, but eventually retreated to the bar with a large glass of wine and a thoughtful expression.

"I want to keep the theme focused around the concept of light," he told Tiny, "But I'm a bit afraid that will somehow be derivative."

Tiny grunted.

"Oh, come on. Surely you have an opinion." Lucifer waved his phone in front of Tiny. "No? You really are the dryest person to ever walk the Earth, and I've known a few."

He had completely missed the little twinkling lights that had blinked into being around the bar as he spoke, yes, and would continue to do so.

"I don't know about derivative," Eric drawled around his glass of vodka and TruBlood, "but it certainly sounds pretentious."

"You run a vampire bar in Louisiana, I don't think you get to accuse anyone of pretention," Lucifer informed him, looking up.

"I run an amazing vampire bar in Louisiana," Eric said airily.

[my_own_advocate]

"And how pretentious is it, exactly, on a scale of 90 to 'vampire bar in Louisiana'?" Lucifer retorted.

"A six," Eric completely made up.

[my_own_advocate]

"That's not on the scale!"

Oh sure, get hung up on that.

"Your scale was dumb," Eric decided.

[my_own_advocate]

"It was a pointed statement, you can't just ignore that," Lucifer informed him.

"Of course I can," Eric said airily, sipping his drink.

[my_own_advocate]

"That's just admitting your bar is likely gaudy and pretentious," Lucifer decided.

"Gaudy, yes, pretentious, never," Eric said with a grin.

[my_own_advocate]

Lucifer snorted. "Am I going to find pictures of either heavy metal whatever or an overabundance of drapes if I go there?"

"The drapes," Eric said. "It's very bordello adjacent."

[my_own_advocate]

"In other words, pretentious."

[texted3times]

"I'm getting you a word of the day calendar for Christmas," Eric decided, which wasn't answering the question.

"Oh, grow up."

Lucifer, you really needed to stop accusing people of things you did too.

Eric laughed. "Never. That was half the appeal of immortality."

[my_own_advocate]

"Humans respond so strangely to immortality," Lucifer sighed.

[texted3times]

"How so?" Eric asked, arching an eyebrow.

[my_own_advocate]

"You treat it either as a curse or a reason to indulge forever and avoid growing at all," Lucifer specified. "It's fascinating."

Well. For a creature who was born that way, anyway.

"And you use your endless stretch of time to do what, exactly?" Eric asked with a little smirk. "Besides a nightlife franchise."

Lucifer eyed him. (Partly because he was worrying about that.) "Living," he said.

"I'm living just fine," Eric said.
