You know what? When life handed you Coca-Cola, make...a new recipeh.

While Ignis himself was not a fan of such sugary, soda-y beverages, he and his comrades had been blessed with many bottles of the stuff since arriving back on the island earlier that day, to the point where it seemed rather wasteful not to do something with them, even if the source for said bottles were a little...unconventional. Inspired by their unexpected bounty, then, he did some reworking of his plans for class that evening, arranged for a few different ingredients, and began with a line of his unexpectedly gained ingredients lined up on his station as the class would find several on theirs as well.

No doubt having more than a few of their own to contribute, as well, he suspected.

"Sometimes," he started, his eyes roving over the bottles before them, "one can find inspiring uses for unconventional ingredients and put them to surprisingly good use in unexpected ways. Take, for example, the fact that our cups runneth over, it would seem, by the generosity of very large bears, and we have more than enough beverages to satiate our thirst for quite some time. And you may be surprised to discover that this can actually be used as an ingredient in a surprising way, using the caramely sweetness and relatively easy to work with liquid form to bring some rather delictible dishes to the table. This is not at all what I had planned for today, but let this be a lesson also in taking advantage of a bounty when one has one.

"Our recipes today, then," Ignis finally concluded, "will be a pulled pork that will take advantage of our instant pots, a barbecued chicken that will take advantage of a slow-cooker so that one might prepared it in the morning and enjoy after a long day of hard work or other tasks, and finally, a cake to satisfy even the most demanding sweet tooth. Let's begin."

As usual, Ignis patiently goes through the recipes before turning the students onto the task themselves, and he actually feels somewhat confident in the simplicity behind these ones that they might actually be somewhat successful.

Of course, that might simply be the fact that the end of this particular torture was officially in sight, as well...

Obviously, the slow-cooker recipe is modified to make up for the much shorter amount of time they have, but it was covered because a good slow-cooker recipe is crucial to the theme of the class. But, other than that, hopefully, these can be approached with minimal damage and there's plenty of time to work with getting it right...or at least somewhat edible.

Goose had had a few bottles of coke that he’d been handed by the polar bears throughout the day so he was slightly more energetic than normal, which considering the previous class he had been lucky to stand on his feet it was an improvement.

Maybe he was tempting fate by trying to make the pulled pork as tried to apply the techniques that Ignis had shown him last week and …on the plus side he set nothing on fire this week?

There was a huge mess at the end of it but this might be the first time Goose had actually followed the instructions, whether it was edible or not still remained to be seen but it did more or less look like it was supposed to.

So that was at least two positives to come out of this lesson? If you paid no attention to the giant mess he’d made of course.

Ignis would much prefer a large mess to a scorched building, especially if such mess was the result of the clear and marked improvement to Goose's performance in the class, even with the extra sugar in his system. In fact, he couldn't help but feel a strong sense of pride along with the wave of relief in seeing the benefit of his surprise drop-in lesson last week already paying off.

"Well done, Mr. Gooseman," he offered, coming over after holding back to let him work if out for himself in the process, and now giving a curious look toward the finished product. "I think we may have finally managed to find your stride."

Now if only they could work on being a bit more tidy when working, but, well, one step at a time...

“You really think so?” there was a small hopeful smile there that maybe he might have finally figured out this cooking thing and that the only casualties had been Captain Foxx’s oven , the Community Centre’s roof from using the pressure cooker and his apartment walls.

It had only taken him most of the semester to do so as well.

He looked at the mess that he had left in his wake, “uh sorry about the mess,” he said sheepishly, “I’ll clean it up,” at least that was something he had gotten rather good at it.

"I had no doubt in my mind that you would," said Ignis, because, while he was immensely proud of Goose's accomplishments in the kitchen that evening, he was absolutely not letting him off on the consequences of his well-fought battle. The war did not entirely end with victory.

So, yeah... that cake was totally on Dwight's radar. And he felt like he was doing a decent job at it too. The batter came out looking pretty much as it was supposed to. And as Dwight nervously paced around his cooking space and waited fort he cake to finish baking, he tasted the frosting he had made and decided it was pretty darn good too.

Much to his....~~surprise~~ delight, the cake came out looking like a cake should. Almost fearful of ruining the progress so far, Dwight hesitated a moment and then poured the frosting onto the cake as he held his breath.

Hopefully this would all turn out when he, and Ignis if he was brave enough, gave it a taste. Just.... kindly ignore the abstract splatter art of cake batter, cola, and frosting that now decorated the countertop.

Ignis would happily put aside his twitches for cleanliness for now if it meant everyone (and everything) was still standing, really.

"So, tell me, Mr. Hendrickson," Ignis grinned faintly as he approached him when all seemed quite finished and in order, "how do you think it turned out?"

Between Goose's considerable improvement, Dwight's consistent competence, and Tisarwat's current absence, this was turning out to be the best class they'd had yet, honestly.

"Think it might edible and pretty near perfect. Might have made the syrup a little too sweet... but I think it will taste good."

And a good chunk of that success was all yours Ignis so enjoy! And have a slice too while you were at it!

"And edible," Ignis drawled, picking up a fork with far more finesse than a mere utensil might usually require, "is truly the pinnacle of our achievements here."

With that, he dug the fork in to have the honor of the first taste and considered it carefully.

"A bit saccharine to my palate," he offered, "but I was forewarned. I'm sure I can think of a few people who might find the sweetness to their tastes, though. Overall, very well done."

A brief pause.

"And with plenty of time leftover for clean-up, at that."

Who would be quite fine with never seeing another bottle of Coke in his life again, quite frankly, and would be very defiantly enjoying a nice cold can of Ebony all the while, thank you.

FF XV turned 5 years old this year, and I've been laughing so hard at all the article titles that have been popping up that are essentially saying "FF XV: Still a Disappointment After 5 Years."

HARSH, BRUH.

Ouch! That is quite the burn!
