The Devil's Nest, Friday Night

It was genuinely hard to miss the new island that had appeared at their shores. Frankly, Lucifer was a bit annoyed about it: it meant that this year, they wouldn't be escaping whatever the shenanigans were in time.

"This had better not interfere with my vacation," Lucifer told Tiny irritably.

Tiny said nothing, but his Santa hat tilted somewhat sympathetically to the left.

"Right," Lucifer sighed. "Well, I'm going to go put a discount on beer and wine on the menu, shall I? I'm sure someone'll be drinking tonight."

"So," said Summer, who had absolutely gotten a drink with a straw just so she could pointedly sip through it when she finishes this statement, because that was just how she rolled, "weird ominous island just randomly showing up off the warehouse district, huh? That should be fun."

Look, she'd been vaguely talking about something like this happening all week, she was wholly unsurprised but it felt weird to not at least acknowledge it at this point.

"Well, at least nothing's tried to attack me in the streets, and Duke hasn't been mind-controlled all day," Lucifer said, looking up at her. "So that's two up on last time."

"This snow," Summer noted, "is attacking my ability to keep my hair nice and cute, but I will give you that. Something tells me this one's going to be one of those slow burns."

“Think we might still be having this problem next week?” Lucifer asked, pulling a face. “Because I do want to get to my bloody anniversary trip.”

There was a pause at that, a long pause filled with a sort of impending bad news that Summer certainly didn't want to be the bearer of.

"When is that supposed to happen?"

"Around Christmas?" Lucifer said slowly.

"So you put a discount on wine and beer but not bourbon? I feel slighted," Jessica grumbled as she took a seat at the bar. "Not that there's much of a markup on bottom shelf bourbon."

"Order enough of it, and I'll give you a discount on bulk," Lucifer offered, easily. "Good evening, Miss Jones."

"When have I ever not ordered enough bourbon?" Jessica asked. "Granted what I drink is probably nothing next to you."

"Who says I haven't been giving you a discount all this time?" Lucifer countered.

"I'm not that lovable," Jessica snarked. "No one gives a discount to the sarcastic and rude."

Octavia's Friday had been all the usual things: therapy, swimming, puttering around on her boat. And now turning up here, though that was slightly less of a predictable event.

"Huh. Not particularly fancy with the specials tonight, are we?"

"It feels like we're on the eve of disaster, so I'm not going to pretend like we're going to get genuinely sophisticated clientele," Lucifer sighed. And leaned over to kiss her hello.

Octavia leaned up to meet him. "Were we ever in danger of 'genuinely sophisticated clientele'?"

She didn't try and imitate his accent, sadly.

“We have a few,” Lucifer protested. “Sometimes they even stop by.”

Octavia gave him another peck before pulling back to give him a look.

"Uh huh."

"I'm thinking of maybe starting a pool," Duke said. "What kind of fuckery do we think that new island extension is about. I'm pretty sure I just saw some dude run past with a gun, if that helps."

“Did he try to shoot you or hypnotize you in any way?” Lucifer asked, head jerking up, alert.

"Nah, just ran past," Duke said. "I cleared the hell out of his way."

"Good," Lucifer said, relaxing a bit. "I don't want any repeats of the reindeer scenario."

"Ah yes. Because I'm in such a rush to get mindcontrolled by a ruminant again."

Octavia sidled on up to him, all ready to slid her arm around his waist. (Some day's were like that.)

"Ha yun, jaka," she said. "You seem concerned."

"There are strangers in the streets running around with guns," Duke said. "It feels warranted."

He slipped his arm around her in return. "Ha yun, gona. How's your day gone?"

That question was going to have to wait, as Octavia looked up at him with her eyebrows raised.

"There are strangers with guns?"

"Well. A stranger with a gun. So far. And a whole new chunk of suspicious looking island."
