Over the years, Liam had developed a habit of an early-morning patrol of the island, precisely because of things like sudden dramatic changes to the island's geography.

So yes, he'd noticed that new bit of island that had popped up by the Abandoned Warehouse District (why did they even have one of those, anyway?).

And yes, he'd sent a couple Troopers over that way to unobtrusively (hopefully) keep an eye on it.

In the meantime, the Trooper Station was open.

Steve came in a while later, knocking marshmallow snow out of his hair. "The weather is ridiculous today."

“You’re not wrong,” Liam acknowledged. “Unfortunately it may also be the least of our problems right now.”

"Oh yeah?" Steve replied. "Did the Bee Lady file a complaint?"

“Not yet, but I’m sure it’s coming. Somehow, the new addition to the island will upset the bees.”

"Their vibes were knocked off on Monday," Steve said, nodding. "Wait. New addition? It's not another donut shop, is it?"

Liam shook his head. “A lot more grim industrial looking. I sent Hugo and one of the others,” who definitely had a name, he was just choosing not to share it, “over to keep an eye on it.”

"Danny and I can follow up if they find anything," Steve offered. "Diego's still a cat."

“Of course he is,” Liam sighed.

And that, naturally, was when Hugo radioed in to report that shots had been fired.

“Go grab Danny,” Liam said with a nod.

"Roger that," Steve said. "Do we know anything else about this new threat?"

Shots fired equaled threats, to Steve.

Other than ‘appeared overnight’, ‘extremely ominous looking’ and now, apparently, ‘inhabited by people prone to firing weapons’?” Liam said. “Nope. I came back here as soon as I spotted it.”

Because he knew the people of this town, and absolutely expected more than one of them to ‘stumble’ across this new… development. He wanted to be able to pull their ass out of the fire should it become necessary, and that was hard to do from inside the fire.

"Should we warn the clinic about a potential gang war?" Steve asked.

He came from the land of Yakuza territory fights, after all. And weaponized bees.

Liam nodded. “Definitely.”

So convenient that they had an actual doctor on staff now who was very well-versed in gunshot wounds!

"Ask 'em for weapons permits?" Steve asked dryly.

“How well does that usually go over?” Liam replied.

Steve snickered. "Maybe this will be the first time they don't answer by shooting at me?"
