Fandom Fire Station | Tuesday

It was, unsurprisingly, another slow day at the fire station. Buck had intended on trying to arrange a phone call with Maddie to take up his time but calling a new parent with a three hour time zone difference was a good way to get called some interesting insults. Did not think that one through.

He was just gonna sit here and quietly drink his coffee until he thought Maddie had enough time to cool off.

Look, Will still didn't plan on being here, like, forever or anything, but after a month he was starting to accept that at the very least it'd be longer than he initially thought. So he might as well try and make an effort. Hence showing up at the firehouse during his break today with a box of doughnuts from J,GoB.

Firehouses always appreciated baked goods, right? At least, the folks at 51 always had.

"Hey, Buck," he greeted. "Been a while." Been since Annie and Summer's Christmas party, to be exact.

"Hey, Will," Buck said, giving him a smile. "I went home for Christmas. Only to find out it wasn't Christmas there. Very confusing."

"... It wasn't Christmas there?" Will echoed. "How does that work?" Somehow, between all the time travel and different dimensions, nobody had mentioned that sometimes time just works differently from place to place.

"Dude, I try not to think too hard on it." Of course he didn't think too hard on much. "How was your holiday?"

Will shrugged. "I couldn't go home, so I spent it here. Other than the weekend where it was Friday the whole time, nothing too special."

Though hey, he'd finally gotten to actually use his medical skills during that whole Friday debacle, so there was that!

"Yeah I heard about that." Or he had an idea of it after piecing together radios from the last week and a half. "Kind of upset I missed something cool."

"Heard this place burnt down," Will commented. "A little ironic, don't you think?"

... Damnit, now he had that stupid song in his head.

"Ironic and awesome," Buck said. "You know, in a totally 'that's a shame' way."

Poor Travis dying was of course, less awesome, but he did get better after all...

"I got to pull a bullet out of someone!" Will said, clearly pleased with himself. "Of course, he was fine the next day..." up until he'd died too, of course. "But that's not the point." So yeah, he kind of got where Buck was coming from here.

"Honestly, the fact that he came back to life makes it even cooler," Buck said.

"Yeah, tell that to my awesome suturing job," Will said, with an exaggerated frown.

"What makes a suturing job awesome?" he asked. "Like, did you make a cool design?"

"... No," although that was an interesting mental picture. "Just, you know. Nice. Tidy. Minimal scarring."

He used to be a plastic surgeon as much as canon completely forgot that, he could totally rock that sort of thing.

"Oh, makes sense," Buck said. "Bet you could do something cool, though. Like a star or something."

"Oh, for sure," Will agreed. "It's just a matter of finding someone who'd be willing to let me do that."

"Hey, next time I get an injury that requires stitches, go for it," Buck said. "Unless it's my face. There I'll draw the line."

"I'll make sure any stitches on your face are, in fact, done in a straight line," Will said, because he thought he was hilarious.

Buck laughed. "Hilarious. Hey, you going to that party at the bar on New Year's Eve?"

"Thinkin' about it," Will confessed. "You?"

"Oh I'm definitely going," Buck said. "I love parties. The last fancy one I went to here was great."

And he'd be wearing the same suit this time around because he sure as hell wasn't buying a new one!

Yeah, Will would... not be wearing anything too fancy to this party.

Mostly because the fanciest thing he owned was currently a) covered in blood and b) in an evidence locker somewhere back in Chicago.

"I must've missed that one, you're not talking about the Christmas thing, are you?" People had dressed up for that, sure, but not in a way anyone would deem fancy.

"No, not that one. Though I went to that one too." He'd go to any party anybody invited him to. "There was this classy masquerade party back in October. I think someone there was wearing a dress that cost more than my rent."

"Ah," Will nodded. "Before my time. Parties happen a lot around here?"

The last month or so had been the general season for it, but October did have Halloween, and a masquerade kinda fit with that.

"Well, it depends on what you're used to," Buck said. "I felt like I was dealing with an emergency at a party every other day back in L.A. This is kind of tame numbers-wise in comparison."

"I wonder if it is, though, statistically," Will mused. "I mean, this place has got a population of, what, maybe a hundred?"

As opposed to LA, where the population of the parties almost certainly exceeded a hundred.

"At most," he said with a nod. "So I guess a party every other month or so makes sense."

"I definitely prefer the parties to the invading guys with guns, I can tell you that much."
