The Perk - Tuesday Morning

A lot had happened in the last few days and Kurt was still adjusting to it all. But the excitement was outweighing the nervousness still, even though he was still a little anxious about straying too far from the dorms and school. He hadn't had the best of experiences in the past, but if he had learned one thing already in his short time there it was that Fandom was definitely different than any place he had even known before. So maybe people outside the school and his classes would be the same.

Here was hoping because after his two classes that morning, and with the rest of the day to himself, Kurt decided to go explore a little and get a feel for the island and where everything was. So, it didn't take long before the smell of coffee hit him and he followed his nose to The Perk. Soon he was sitting at one of the tables, the notebook the Professor had told him to use to record his experiences and thoughts laid open in front of him, the jumbo coffee held a safe distance away in his tail as he started jotting things down.

Guillermo didn’t have any classes on Tuesday so he decided to try and familiarise himself where everything was on the island and decided to stop by the Perk and grinned when he saw Kurt at one of the tables, “hey roomie,” he waved.

"Hey roomie" Kurt replied with a grin as he nodded towards the seat at the other side of the table. "How's it going? Find any cool places to check out around here yet? I was just walking along the beach and got distracted by the smell of coffee," he admitted a bit sheepishly.

Guillermo placed an order for a latte and sat down in the seat opposite Kurt, “it’s going good, how about you? I thought I’d do some exploring round the island today since I don’t have any classes, I thought coffee would be a good place to start first,” he grinned.

"The coffee is really good actually" he said giving a slight smile and wave to the barista who was trying her best not to stare at him still.

"So, sorry if I woke you up this morning" Kurt said, directing his attention back to Guillermo. "I couldn't sleep last night so was up and figured it was a good time walk around some before I had to head to class. Saw the sun rise over the beach and just sat and enjoyed the beach for a bit then came here after class. So haven't gotten to do much exploring yet."

“Oh you didn’t wake me at all,” Guillermo assured him, who could be a rather sound sleeper at times, “I didn’t have class today so I thought I could get a head start and see what I can find here,”

Kurt nodded as he took another drink and then perked up, giving his fingers a slight snap as he did.
"Oh guess what? I heard there is a movie theater on the island somewhere. And supposedly there's a gaming store too!"

Guillermo’s eyes lit up as Kurt said that, “wow that’s awesome, we should check them out sometime,” he grinned.

"Definitely!" Kurt agreed. "Get our room set up and find the coolest places in town- sounds like a great plan!"

“I’m sure we could also find really cool stuff for our rooms while we’re at it,” Guillermo added, as he wondered what type of merchandise s place like Fandom could have.

"Oh for sure!" Kurt agreed. "And I was thinking, if we could find a place that sells them or get one delivered somehow, I was thinking we could get a mini fridge too so we don't have to worry about running out of snacks!"

“Oh that’s a great idea,” Guillermo enthused, because he definitely hadn’t been exaggerating when he had told Dr. Lecter that he loved food, “I can also make us food as well that we can store in there, I haven’t checked out the common room yet but I could try making some recipes in there and we could have leftovers.”

"And with both of us in the cooking class we should be set" Kurt commented. "Provided ya know, we don't set off fire alarms or anything. I'm really not that good with many dishes and most of what I can cook are German dishes." He gave his friend a smile as he continued "but I am sure we can manage between the two of us!"

“Oh yes the other students probably wouldn’t like us setting off the fire alarms,” Guillermo considered, “or the firefighters for that matter,” he nodded, unaware that they probably would actually like having something to do, “but that sounds like a plan,” he agreed, returning the smile, “I could teach you how to make some Mexican dishes if you’d like?” sorry Hannibal, Guillermo wasn’t trying to take your job he just really liked cooking and eating. “My mum was always cooking at home and it was just me and her most of the time so I learnt a lot of recipes, most of them Mexican but there were a few different ones there,"

"I would like that a lot" Kurt said. "My folks used to cook all the time. Once I had to leave, I didn't have much chance to cook like before. But I would love to be able to have some of the dishes Mutti used to make for us" Kurt said with a smile.

“Oh we can definitely do that,” Guillermo nodded enthusiastically, “we should be able to make a whole range of dishes, I’m sure there’s a place in town where we can buy the ingredients that we need … I imagine not everyone would just order take out?” he considered with a tilt of his head.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's at least one general store around here" Kurt said. "And if we can't get something here on the island we might be able to talk one of the teachers into taking us to the mainland for a shopping trip. We can bribe them with a meal if needed!" Kurt added with a smirk.

Miguel beelined for the coffee, only then seeing the blue kid with the tail. He blinked, then looked at him sideways.

"Huh. You know a girl named T.J.?"

Kurt glanced over with a thoughtful and slightly confused look on his face. "No, I don't believe I do. I'm Kurt, Kurt Wagner" he said with a slightly awkward smile.

"Must be one of those multiverse things." Miguel shrugged. "She looks a lot like you. Goes by Nocturne."

"MORE multiverse and alternate timelines?" Kurt said with a slight sigh. "Ive already met two people I know but not the version here on the island... and someone who said he knows an older version of me as an X-Man even. Is this really that normal of a thing here in Fandom?"

[what_the_shock]

"Kind of, yeah." Miguel shrugged. "But TJ was part of my team before I joined, nothing to do with Fandom. Never met her myself, but I've seen pics. You're probably related. Or versions of each other, or something."

Or she was the daughter of another version of you.

"Hope she was at least as cool as I am" Kurt said trying to sound sure of himself. Geeky... he meant geeky as he was "But you know of the X-Men then? And.. and Mutants?"

[what_the_shock]

"Oh, yeah. Blink's team leader, then there's Sabretooth, Longshot, and Morph," Miguel counted on his fingers. "I'm in the genetic minority." He frowned. "Little young for the X-Men, aren't you?"

"I was studying with the Professor and the team. Professor Xavier" Kurt said. "I hope to become one of the X-Men someday, and if there's a version of me out there that can make it, then I wanna do my best to make it happen! Not... not sure if I can, but it is something I would love."

[what_the_shock]

"...Sure you wouldn't love a normal life?" Miguel felt obliged to ask. "Something a little less potentially deadly?"

You were a little young to decide to throw yourself at superheroing, Kurt.

"Is that even an option when you look like... this?" he asked with a wave all of himself. "I have been called many things. Normal isn't one of them" he added with a somewhat sad sigh. "But yeah normal would be good if it could actually happen?"

[what_the_shock]

Miguel shrugged. "Hey, I hear that, kid; you're not the only one with fangs and weird eyes. I guess the blue makes it harder some places? Around here nobody cares. There's other places you'd be the usual, or at worst someone with a few unique body mods. Normal's all relative. I'm just saying, find a some hobbies, learn something you can make a job out of. Heroing's good to have as needed, but it sucks as a lifestyle."

Kurt considered that for a moment and gave a slight nod.

"I can see how that could be the case" he said thoughtfully. "I guess that's part of why the Professor sent me here. To see what 'normal' is like outside the academy and everything."

"Good for your professor," Miguel said. "Though 'normal' is extra relative when it comes to Fandom."

"Yeah, I'm beginning to find that out" Kurt said with a slight scoff. "Still seems like a decent place. Even if it is kinda small."

[what_the_shock]

"Yeah, the people here are decent; it's nice not to have to hide." Miguel held up a hand to tick things off again. "Just watch out for the gremlins, marshmallow snow and glitter rain, drinks coming out of the water pipes, suddenly turning into a younger kid or a girl, and weird invasions."

"You... you aren't kidding are you?" Kurt said with a slightly raised eyebrow.

[what_the_shock]

"Nope," Miguel confirmed. "You just missed the fun of advent and a time loop. Probably no big invasions for at least a couple months now." He shrugged. "Still quieter than being on a hero team."

"Still quieter than being a Mutant high school student trying to fit in at school" Kurt said with a laugh. "So, you know about Mutants and superheroes... are... I mean, do you have powers too?"

[what_the_shock]

"You from a world that has Spider-man?" Miguel asked.

[furrybluefreak]

"Yeah, I've heard of the Spider Man" Kurt said eyeing Miguel curiously. "But whenever I've heard anyone talk about him they describe him as a kid."

[what_the_shock]

"Yeah, he started young. We've got a lot of similar powers, though." No way was he telling his life's story to a kid he'd just met at the coffee shop. "I was Spider-man about a hundred years later."

[furrybluefreak]

"Oh that's cool!" Kurt said, eyes going a little wide at that.

Both the Spider-Man thing, and also that someone so much older could have such a cool power. Not that Kurt was going to be rude and say that out loud. But sorry Miguel, you were like twice his age so... yeah kinda to be expected.

"Was... was it hard to get used to your powers?" Cus ya know, that was still proving a bit of a challenge for the young Mutant in some ways.

Miguel was decades younger, thank you very much!

He snorted and held up one hand, opening his talons. "Ruined clothes, sheets, and a friend's bed before I got these to retract. Why, what're your powers?"

Kurt's eyes went a bit big as he looked at the talons and then broke into a grin.
"I have several. But the coolest, I think at least, is I can teleport."
He had debated just showing Miguel but remembered most people didn't appreciate an after scent of sulfur hanging around- which he honestly had gone nose blind to a long long time ago.

Yeah, Miguel was indifferent, but the baristas might not appreciate that indoors.

"Yeah, that's pretty cool," Miguel admitted. "I could've solved a lot of problems with that. Guessing you have to figure out how to teleport all of you someplace and not end up in a wall or too far off the ground?"

"Exactly. The hardest part, so far, is figuring the distance. I can't go very far in a single port. And I have to be able to see where I'm going. But it is a pretty cool ability!"

And useful for things other than playing practical jokes on friends too if you could even imagine!

[what_the_shock]

"My advice, learn plenty of math," Miguel said. "And climbing, if you're any good. You can see a lot farther from higher up."

Thus said the wallcrawling scientist.

[furrybluefreak]

"Math, yeah...." Kurt made a bit of a face. "The Professor keeps reminding me about that. I got the climbing thing down pretty good though. Mama used to say I was a monkey when I was little."

[what_the_shock]

"What's wrong with math?" Miguel asked. "It's useful."

[furrybluefreak]

"Nothing's wrong with it" Kurt argued. "I'm just not very good at it. Numbers get all jumbled up here," he said tapping his head.

[what_the_shock]

"Oh." Miguel shrugged. "It takes practice, like anything else. I probably use more with webs, though. Never teleported on my own; that's Blink's thing."

[furrybluefreak]

"Yeah, I'm trying to get better with it" Kurt nodded and then tilted his head slightly as he looked at Miguel. "Have you teleported with someone before?"

"Yeah, if portals count," Miguel said. "It's pretty handy. Not going to try it with you, though; sorry, kid. I don't know you near well enough."
