Completely and perhaps somewhat blissfully oblivious to any sort of potential political drama unfolding back home and in the minds of his fellow chocobros, Prompto headed down to the shop after a pretty chill weekend to get things opened up, take care of a few shipments that had come in over the weekend, and generally prepare for what was probably going to be a pretty quiet day, like most days were, and that was fine by him. Noct was texting him about a potential fishing trip once he got back to Insomnia, which also, eventually, lead into both of them remembering that, oh, crap, wasn't Ignis's birthday in pretty much a week from now?

There was no way they could outdo what they'd done last year with the pool party in Summer's apartment, but they probably should do something for him, right?

Which then just dissolved into them trying to decide if Noctis gifting Ignis with the biggest fish he could catch so that Ignis had the gift of getting to cook it up for them would really count as a birthday present.

Like, you really could make the case for it!

Anyway! The Photo Hut is open!

A short while later Liz was downstairs as well, it still felt strange to think how calm and quiet everything was now but considering the events of the past month … she wasn’t going to complain about uneventful weekends. This morning there had been an email from Hellboy and some updated photos of all of the cats and a few extra of Leo, so she had read over the email and then came down with the photos saved on her phone so she could show Prompto.

“Hey,” she smiled as she walked over, “how has everything been going?”

"Hi," Prompto smiled back, and he wouldn't say he was definitely looking forward to whenever Liz made it downstairs to help break up the boredom a little, but he definitely had been looking forward to whenever Liz made it downstairs to break up the boredom a little. "Pretty quiet, really."

Shocker. But then he, because he really couldn't help himself, and, really, it was all Liz's fault because she only encouraged this kind of behavior out of him, he added, "Better now, though."

Which he let sit there for enough time to let the ensuing blushes on both sides linger enough before also adding, "Hey, do you think a fish makes a good birthday present?"

Context? Who needed it?

Liz would feel guilty about it … except well she actually liked this kind of behaviour from Prompto, she would totally happily encourage it.

She smiled, a faint blush appearing as she considered Prompto’s question, “I suppose it would depend if the person really liked fish?” she finally said after she thought about it for a bit.

She had to admit she was rather curious to know why Prompto felt the need to ask her the question.

Prompto's eyes narrowed a little in thought as he nodded along to Liz's perspective on it. "Yeah," he mused, especially since this did seem to support his and Noct's theory about it, "that makes sense..."

Because Ignis did like fish. And he liked cooking with fish. So, really, he was starting to feel like they might be on the right track with this one after all.

And, because he did realize the question might have seemed a little random, he then explained, "Ignis's birthday's next week. Noct and I were trying to figure out what to get him."

And they settled on...fish.

In case anyone was wondering why it was a good thing, actually, to separate those two.

Liz had met Ignis exactly one time so she had no idea if this was a good or bad idea, even though she knew he taught cooking … so it kind of made sense to her in a way, so she nodded, “oh, I mean .. it would certainly be a different present, does Ignis like fish?” she wondered, agreeing rather closely with the narrative there.

"He does," Prompto confirmed, with a nod, now feeling more confident in this choice. "And he's also, like, super hard to get things for, because he's just so...."

Judgey? Was judgey the word he was looking for? Prompto was pretty sure that's what he was looking for, but he wasn't going to say that, he was just going to gesture kind of vageuly.

"And last year we threw him a pool party in Summer's apartment," he added, "so already we know there's no way we're going to top that."

"Oh well he might like that it's different then?" Liz tried, it was the thought that counted right?

Then she considered the rest of what Prompto was saying and ...

"How do you throw a pool party in an apartment?" she asked tilting her head curiously, she hadn't been in Fandom then so she was curious to hear how that worked.

"Magic," Prompto answered, with a grin and a waggle of his fingers for effect. He chuckled, then shook his head. "Seriously, though, my sister works this amazing illusion magic, and she set it all up. It was a ton of work, too, she practically had to live with Summer for, like, a week straight just to set it all up, but it was amazing. Totally worth it! I'll see if I can dig up some of the pictures for you."

Because of course he'd taken a ton.

“That does sound incredible,” Liz grinned, “I’d love to see what it looked like, I’ve definitely never heard of a pool party in an apartment before,”

She paused, “oh and speaking of photos, Hellboy sent through more cat photos if you want to see them?”

She pretty much knew the answer to that but she thought she’d ask anyway.

[and in what feels like deja vu, work is also going to be extremely crazy for me today so I’m going to be on extreme sp for a while but I’ll try and ping when I can!]

"Uhhhhhhhhh," said Prompto, grin going lopsided and bright as he confirmed what she'd suspected, "do you even have to ask? Of course I wanna see 'em! He got some of Leo, too, right?"

If there weren't a substantial number of Leo shots, he was going to be so disappointed in you, Hellboy.

“There’s definitely plenty of Leo,” Liz assured him as she brought up the photos to show him, she decided to bring those up first. “I think the cats may have got into Agent Manning’s quarters again judging by some of the photos,” she could have imagined the row that would have caused.

There were a lot of photos, especially of Leo they weren’t always the best shots but well Hellboy wasn’t a photographer but he had tried.

Even the bad ones weren't really much worse than some of the pictures Prompto himself took on occasion, and he actually was a photographer, so he was in no place to judge.

He just took...a lot of pictures! They couldn't all be gems!

"Awww," gushed Prompto, at just the first one, and it was only getting squishier from there, folks. After a few of them, he had to chuckle. "Is Agent Manning's quarters somewhere they are definitely not supposed to be?" he guessed.

Liz grinned, “they are most definitely not supposed to be in there but they keep breaking in, I think Hellboy encourages it …he knows it upsets Agent Manning,” she told him, there was a pause and she added, “they really don’t get along,”

"Encourages it?" Prompto snickered a little. "I'd be surprised if he wasn't the one just letting them in."

That's what he would have done!

Well, okay, maybe not, but that's what he would have liked to think he would have wanted to have done!

Then his eyes slid over to Liz in a sort of clandestine, scandalous sort of way, grinning and even nudging her with his elbow a little to convince her to let him in on some of that BPRD gossip.

"Why don't they get along?"

Liz laughed at that, “it honestly wouldn’t surprise me but I know for a fact those cats are quite capable of breaking out on their own …well they are Hellboy’s cats after all,” she grinned and then there was a pause as she considered her answer to Prompto’s question, “I think it’s personality clashes mostly, they haven’t gotten along in all the years that I’ve known them …they’ve had some pretty big rows over the years,” there was another pause, “also Hellboy keeps escaping and well he gets seen …I think a lot of it is Agent Manning is running out of things to tell the public to cover up the fact that the BPRD exists,” she added.
