With the party having come and gone (and, in Irene's opinion, left its mark as a rounding success), there was far less to do at the shop this week than last. Displays were changed and refreshed, with most of the red and white inventory being relegated to the back. (Most of the pink things that had been highlighted for the holiday actually were just normal, if pink, items. A surprising number of vibrators came in only pink, you know!)

More importantly, Irene had cued up the sound system to play Toto all day, with 'Africa' appearing several times in the track list. It had been ages and ages since she'd been to Africa, you know.

Did it matter she wasn't a teacher? Hadn't mattered before! The benefits of being friendly.

It was odd how many times Jon found himself in this store, given he had no interest in anything in it.

Today he was coming with a purpose, though, since the school trip had been announced.

"Irene?" He looked around and found her, then waved. "Hello."

"Hi Jon," she called, setting aside the fascinating register tape she'd been examining. Just the person (or, well, one of the people, but he'd been a fun enough travel companion last time; he'd do!) she had wanted to see. "Can't get enough of this place, huh?"

"It's just as fascinating as the first time I walked in," Jon said deadpan. "I hope your day is going well."

"It is!" she replied cheerily. "I actually went up to visit the school for the first time since I was a teacher myself this morning. Not much has changed, it seems."

She'd had a blacksmith to harass, you see.

"Oh. Um. I wouldn't really know. I suppose it depends on how long ago you were a teacher. But speaking of that, there's another trip coming up."
