Buck was now well rested, and still riding the high of having his BFF visiting him. Now that he had some sleep he realized there was something up with Eddie, but was working up to actually talking about it. Because trying to get Eddie to talk about stuff was...difficult to say the least.

He was currently behind the reception desk, trying to figure out a way to smoothly bring up the issue.

He was doing fine. Would a mentally unstable person look this good? No, please don't answer that truthfully.

"You didn't tell me about the dog," Eddie said, there to keep Buck from asking soul probing questions. And to let him know about the change of plans. You know, classic Eddie.

"Should I have?" Buck asked. "I mean, it's a fire house. It's weird the 118 doesn't have one."

"Well. Yeah. Dogs are pretty great."

When Eddie wasn't in charge of them.

"Bobby would end up keeping it." Which honestly meant it was probably Athena that was keeping them woefully dog-less.

"Probably." It would be the most spoiled dog on the planet. And probably come with some tragic backstory you'd find out about in flashbacks a season later.

Buck gestured around. "How do you like the place?"

Oh no, that tragic backstory would break audiences. Fry's dog all over again.

"It's not bad. Weird." Well. "Very weird," he corrected.

"You get used to it," Buck assured him. "What was the weirdest thing you've heard so far? Is it the raccoons? The raccoons freak me out."

"Travis mentioned a zombie band and... squirrels?" Reporter squirrels sounded terrifying, Buck.

"Oh yeah, the squirrels are really invasive," Buck said. "I mean, not with me because I don't do much but if Buck 1.0 had been around them? Yikes."

"Helps that I'm not really sure you can get more than one person in that truck," Eddie replied like a good friend.

"Uh, Buck 1.0 could totally manage it." Was that a challenge?

"Buck." Eddie was just going to give him an amused if disapproving look. This was where people worked, you know.

"I'm not saying I would," Buck said. "But I am saying I could."

"Please do not, if I'm going to be working here, I don't need to figure out that Tetris situation." Way to bury the lede, Edmundo.

Buck held up a hand. "Wait--repeat that? Working here?"

"I talked to Travis about it yesterday and I guess I start next week." You guess? Really?

Don't ask about him making a big, dramatic decision when stressed.

"What about the 118? What about Christopher?" Buck asked. "What about being the Twitter guy?"

"Christopher will be thrilled to see you again and... coming here now will let him settle into a new school without leaving in the middle of a semester."

And being the Twitter guy sounded awful, honestly. He'd become Twitter famous from being very bad at it or something.

"I'll have to find a place that's not your couch, of course..."

"You made this decision after being in town for three days?" Buck asked. "Like, I'd be happy to have you around, man, but that's a big decision."

He made dumber choices in less time before now!

"Maybe a break from LA and everything will be good for Chris, you know?"

No mention of himself, of course.

"I mean, I can't argue with that." LA was nuts a lot of the time. "He'd probably enjoy the squirrel thing."

"I am not looking forward to explaining that thing to him," Eddie replied, shaking his head. "Think Carla could work her bureaucratic magic on this side of the country?"

"Uh, it's Carla, of course she can." Buck was fully convinced Carla could do anything. Including firefighting, if she put her mind to it.

"...so, what, you thinking of getting a house or something?" A house that would likely be furnished better than Buck's apartment?

"I think I'll have to if your apartment is anything to go by," Eddie replied. "No offense. It's just not very kid friendly."

"Well I didn't have a kid then." Did he have a kid now? He guessed he kind of did, with that whole thing Eddie sprung on him.

He definitely had a kid kinda. Kid adjacent at the very least.

"So, I guess this week will be finding a place and figuring out how to get everything and Christopher here." And also not get into a fight with his parents over this, but that wasn't as important. "If you want to help with the house thing since you know this place better than me..."

Eddie would pay him back in friendship points. Redeemable for one mental breakdown or cry session over his life.
