Blackstone Foundry and Forge; Tuesday [05/24].
Boy, it sure was a good thing that Amaya didn't have any pressing orders or projects that day, because Rube Goldberg machines in her engineering workshop definitely meant Rube Goldberg machines in her actual workshop for the rest of the day.
Very specifically, one that would traverse throughout the whole shop in the most ridiculously elaborate ways possible (obviously, that was the whole point!) so that she could put out the forge from behind the counter.
She was particularly proud about the section that involved some very precise timing on some daggers on pulleys and strings and the bit that seemed to go on a whole tangent involving the Crumbler, and at least one instance where the fact that the giant shuriken was no longer in the wall, but rather on it, so now it could work almost like a gear to set something off...
Again, it was a very good thing that there were no other pressing projects, but this was definitely going to be a whole thing now.

"You are lucky there Rex" he called up to the dragon circling around overhead. "Flying is a lot easier than all these bloody stairs!"
As Connor made his way down Unicorn Street, he did a slight double take as he passed by one of the shops, stopping and backtracking a bit to get a better look inside. He stood and marveled for a moment before letting out and impressed whistle.
"That is brilliant mate" he said, as much to himself as to anyone who might be around.

You had excellent timing, really, Connor, because Amaya's just put the finishing touches on a section that would launch a hatchet into one of the test dummies to move it enough to turn, sweeping a broom-arm in the air to push over a box of ball bearings that would rain down a slope into...
...well, that part wasn't done yet, but everything up to that point seemed to work perfectly, so Amaya grinned proudly for a moment to put a pin on her progress for a hopefully profitable interruption.
"Welcome to Blackstone Foundry and Forge," she offered, adjusting a glove with a sharp pull and a wave of her hand. "What can I do for you?"
no subject
"All of it really" he said with a slight grin. "But especially, that" he said with a nod to the intricate network of devices and contraptions. "It's been ages since I've made me own Rube Goldberg machine!"
He gave it another moment of consideration then faced Amaya and stuck his hand out. "I'm Connor. Just getting settled in here on the island and all and..."
At that moment, Connor was interrupted as Rex flew in through the doorway and landed on his shoulder, giving Amaya a series of happy and curious chirps.
"And this here is Rex" Connor added with a laugh as he reached up and scratched under Rex's chin slightly.

In case he couldn't tell.
"Good to meet you say," yes, there was usually a period between those sentences, but Amaya decided to just skip right over pesky things like punctuation at the moment, "you don't see many of those 'round here. You some kind of dragon wrangler?'
no subject
"Ah, sort of" Connor said with a smirk. "Rex is a Coelurosauravus. A type of reptile that..." and her Connor paused a moment, before deciding a long drawn out science explanation was probably not what was needed right now. "He's often called a dragon by many people yes" he finished with a grin.
It wasn't a full lie or miss-truth. Creatures like Rex were probably where the legends of dragons and such came from anyway. So it wasn't too off the mark to call Rexy a type of dragon. And it seemed around here it might be easier too to just us dragon to describe the little guy.
"Rexy is the only one I have, though it would be amazing to have more of them around!"
no subject
"Well," she reasoned, "does he breathe fire?"
no subject
He looked at Rex for a moment as he thought. "Not sure all dragon had to breathe fire though?"
no subject
She held up a hand at Rex.
"No offense," she added, "of course."
no subject
"Ay come on mate. Be careful up there! Don't go breaking anything!" With a somewhat apologetic shrug, Connor turned his attention back to Amaya. "Sorry bout that. He can be a bit temperamental at times. Though he really is a good boy most of the time."
no subject
She let a little bit of a challenging look linger on Rex for a moment longer before turning to Connor with a dismissive wave of her hand.
"I wouldn't worry too much," she said. "Not like I don't have plenty of sharp, pointy things lying around if he needs a little...motivation to move. But if he's planning on staying, he might want to think about getting a start on that fire breathing. Thing like that could be mighty useful in a place like this!"
no subject
"This is a really cool set up you got here" he offered. "I've always kinda been interested in blacksmith and stuff. Just... don't have the strength for it, really."
There was a reason he had gravitated more towards science and techy and geeky stuff.
no subject
"Strength," she pointed out, "you can fix. I'm actually running a workshop on it this summer, though, meets here every Thursday morning. If you're really interested, feel free to stop on by and check it out."

He gave it some thought and then turned to Amaya with a questioning look. "Did a lot of tracking and trapping back home. Mostly catch and release sort of thing. We mostly use a lot of high tech stuff... but I bet some simple rugged traps and what not could come in handy as well."

Connor gave a bit of a shrug.
"Back home we dealt with dinosaurs and other strange creatures. Sounds like this place might have its own variety of the odd and bizarre as well. And I cant wait to see what all this place has to offer!"
Oh you may come to regret that enthusiasm down the road there Connor!

Like when you were trying to squeeze macramé clothes onto them, for example...
"Ugly little buggers, too. I imagine they'd give goblins a pretty good run for their money."

"Yeah pretty normal for the most part I'd say" Connor agreed. "I mean we don't have people with super powers running around or anything. And we certainly don't have talking owls that run local museums and what not so that's been a bit of an adjustment on the job side of thins" Connor added with a chuckle.
