Rosa was regretting having chosen today as the day to slog through her ever-building email inbox trying to find actual job offers and not just messages from people who were very confused about the nature of the business based on the ubiquitous abbreviation that seemed to plague every listing for it, no matter how hard she tried to ensure that they got the full title of the business' name.

Although one of these days? She might actually answer one of those emails in earnest, just to see what happened.

She'd much rather be rooting out evidence against crooked cops or tracking down rare missing items or people, but it could make for an interesting weekend one of these times.

Miguel came downstairs slurping his coffee and flopped into a chair. "Hey, wanna look up an old man and go fuck with him? Steal his identity, close out his bank accounts, subscribe him to every e- and paper spam available?"

Well, good morning, Tighpants, you certainly had Rosa's attention there.

"Are we talking about a specific old man that you have in mind?" she asked. "Or just...in general?"

The answer was yes, though, either way.

"Definitely a specific one," Miguel said. "Though hey, if you know a few others that could use it, I'm up for it."

He thought about it. "Come to think of it, there's a couple more I wouldn't mind taking down, either."

"If I ever say no to fucking up an old man's shit, random or otherwise," said Rosa, "you know we're having one of Those Weekends."

And she'd already shifted in her chair with a newfound focus.

"What've we got?"

"Last name probably Hendrickson, first name unknown. Father to Dwight and Helen, originally from Haven, Maine."

Miguel sipped his coffee.

"Let's make him more of a miserable old bastard than he already is."

Rosa nodded as she scribbled down the information. The lack of a reaction was a good indication that she didn't make any connections with the names; why would she? It wasn't like she bothered to actively remember that guy's name.

She'll get there, but for the moment, her focus was entirely on torturing some potentially geriatric stranger.

"Should be able to get a first name pretty quickly on that info," she noted. "Once I get through all the usual dimension variations."

Cue the annoyed look at that particular unexpected layer to running a detective agency on this island specifically.

"And then we can get to work."

"I can get you the dimension info, too," Miguel said. "That won't be a problem."

Yeah, he sort of suspected Rosa hadn't realized, but since she'd do it anyway, it wasn't important.

Oh, Rosa would definitely have still done it even if she did immediately realize whose dad this was. Some things transcended even annoying neighbors.

"Do we want to start small, you think?" she asked. "Let it build up? Or just hit him fast and hard."

"Oh, I like the start small idea," Miguel said. "Let it build up, let him wonder and worry. What did you have in mind?"
